Barcelona player Javier Mascherano sentenced to jail over tax evasion- but unlikely to serve prison time

Javier Mascherano has been sentenced to a year in prison but is unlikely to ever serve time in jail, after a verdict was reached in his tax evasion case.
The Argentine has been fined €815,000 and handed a year's sentence for two counts of fiscal crimes committed in 2011 and 2012.
Mascherano has previously admitted to the offences, repaid the money owed and paid a hefty fine as recompense.
After such compliance with the investigation, the court is expected to grant the wish of Mascherano and his lawyer, David Aineto, in suspending the custodial sentence in exchange for a further fine.

The Barcelona star said in a statement released on Thursday: "I'm a professional sportsman and I don't know a lot about legal and financial matters.
"Therefore I must rely on the people that manage these technical, and for me, complicated, issues.
"All my career I have been an honest and responsible person... I will take this experience that has accosted me as another experience which I will leave stronger and calmed by the fact that I am once again within the law."

Javier Mascherano's statement in full:

Today I have reached an agreement with the Spanish tax authorities, with a firm verdict agreed by all parties. Thus, with a resolution now for the legal matters and with the relief of having sorted my tax situation, I would like to make a brief statement.
After agreeing my move to Barcelona I contracted a specialist tax agency with well-known professionals that enjoy a great reputation. According to my situation they recommended me certain structures, all within the law, telling me that they were normal, transparent and accepted procedures.
I was assessed by these professionals from 2010 to 2014 I decided to change agency because of the proceedings I was facing, and with evidence that the problems may not be 'potential' but in fact very real. My new agency recommended that I pay the tax authorities the money they were claiming, presenting also a corrective payment.
Now, finally, after a long wait this agreement has arrived which allows me to relax again and go about my daily life.
I'm a professional sportsman and I don't know a lot about legal and financial matters.
Therefore I must rely on the people that manage these technical, and for me, complicated, issues.
All my career I have been an honest and responsible person... I will take this experience that has accosted me as another experience which I will leave stronger and calmed by the fact that I am once again within the law.

More than ten thousands people petition to stop Kanye West recording David Bowie Tribute Album

More than ten thousands of people have rallied to stop Kanye West recording a David Bowie covers album. The petition is posted on 38Degrees.org along with headline "STOP KANYE WEST RECORDING COVERS OF DAVID BOWIE'S MUSIC."

Created by Peter Piranha, the petition reads, "Stop Kanye West from being allowed to record covers of David Bowies music. Why is this important? David Bowie was one of the single most important musicians of the 20th and 21st century, it would be a sacrilege to let it be ruined by Kanye West."

At the time of writing, the day-old petition has 10,201 signatures. One of the petitioners writes, "I've been a Bowie fan for 47 years his music is precious to me." Another petitioner adds, "David Bowie was a unique and extremely talented artist, nothing to do with Kanye's music or the way he is exposed in the public."

Kanye was reportedly busy laying down his tribute to the late singer with version of hits including "Rebel Rebel" and "Heroes". A source previously told Daily Star, "Some are straightforward covers with Kanye actually singing. On others he is rapping with his own lyrics over Bowie's music."

North Korea invents alcohol that doesn't give you a hangover

Kim Jong-un's scientists claim to have invented an alcohol that won't give you a hangover, it's been reported.

The liquor is apparently made from plant extract ginseng and the sugar is replaced with burnt rice, which should eliminate both bitterness and a hangover, according to North Korean media.

Named Koryo Liquor, it has been produced at Taedonggang Foodstuff Factory, a company that has spent years refining the drink in the country, the state controlled Pyongyang Times reports.

"Koryo Liquor, which is made of six-year-old Kaesong Koryo insam, known as being highest in medicinal effect, and the scorched rice, is highly appreciated by experts and lovers as it is suave and causes no hangover,” according to the article.

However the 'hangover-free' claims have been disputed with experts claiming there is no such thing.

Andray Abrahamian, director of research from Choson Exchange, which supports entrepreneurship in North Korea, told NK News : "There are some high quality liquors made in North Korea, though in my experience there is no such thing as hangover-free booze anywhere in the world." 

He added that he hadn't tried the brand but associated the drink with medicinal properties and isn't that keen on it as a "tasty treat".

Ginseng is commonly used both in North and South Korea on the basis of being a medicine.

North Korean media sources last year claimed medical products containing extracts from the plant could cure Ebola, Aids, Mers and Sars.

'Game of Thrones' Season 6 footage featuring Jaime Lannister

New footage of "Game of Thrones" season 6 is included in a promotional video posted on HBO NOW's Twitter account. While the new footage is short, it manages to give a first look at Jaime Lannister (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) in the upcoming installment. He's seen wearing his armor while riding a white horse.

There's also a glimpse of Daenerys (Emilia Clarke) in the Great Grass Sea which has been seen in early December and a scene from season 4 showing Bran Stark's (Isaac Hempstead-Wright) eyes going white. Meanwhile, a trailer for the sixth season is expected to arrive in the coming weeks, ahead of the show's return on April 24.
Isaac Hempstead-Wright will reprise his role as Bran after being absent in the whole fifth season, and there has been speculation that Bran's half brother Jon Snow (Kit Harington) will return as well although he was stabbed by members of the Night's Watch in the fifth season finale.

Hempstead-Wright recently teased his character's crucial role in the next season. "Previously Bran's seen tiny glimpses of future or past but never has he been very much in control in the situation," he shared, "Now we're given looks into very important events in the past, present and future of this world and Bran is beginning to piece them together like a detective, almost as if he's watching the show. Equally, he's now discovering how crucial he could be in the Great War. It's quite 'Inception'-y."

Celine Dion’s husband René Angélil has died at the age of 73.
René, who acted as a mentor and manager to Celine, had been battling throat cancer since 2013 but lost the fight on Thursday morning.
“Rene Angelil, 73, passed away this morning as his home in Las Vegas after a long and courageous battle against cancer. The family requests that their privacy be respected at the moment; more details will be provided at a later time," his representative told People in a statement.
René had been undergoing treatment for the disease, but his struggle was very difficult on Celine as well as the pair’s three children - 14-year-old son, Rene, and five-year-old fraternal twins Eddy and Nelson.

David Bowie died on Sunday, January 10, just two days after his 69th birthday. The sad news was announced on his Facebook page and has been confirmed by his son Duncan Jones.

"David Bowie died peacefully today surrounded by his family after a courageous 18 month battle with cancer," so read a post on the artist's Facebook page. "While many of you will share in this loss, we ask that you respect the family's privacy during their time of grief."

His son Duncan took to Twitter to address his dad's passing. He shared a throwback picture of him and his dad, and captioned it, "Very sorry and sad to say it's true. I'll be offline for a while. Love to all."

Two sisters spent £6,000 on nose plastic surgery after facing years of bullying

A pair of sisters had matching nose jobs costing £6,000 with the same surgeon on the same day.
Karyse Coley, 21, and Deanna Coley, 19, decided to have surgery at the same time after years of being teased during secondary school.

The sisters say they endured years of being self-conscious after people made fun of their ‘wide noses’ and wanted to undergo surgery for along time. They travelled to specialist Dr Riccardo Frati in London for the operation.
Both spent plenty of time choosing their perfect celebrity nose and they decided on Karrueche Tran, actress and ex-girlfriend of rapper Chris Brown.
Karyse’s surgery was straightforward and took less less than an hour but Deanna had to have her nose broken and rebuilt to get the shape she desired in a three-hour operation, the Manchester Evening News reports.
Karyse Coley, who studies dance at the University of Bolton, told the MEN: “We both had our noses done because it was the one thing we hated about ourselves, we grew up being teased about it and it was something we were insecure about.

“We did not have our noses done to solely take good selfies, anyone with an insecurity on their face will understand that it’s the first thing you look at when you have your picture taken and something that is prominent to you as well as in everyday life.
“We were self conscious of our noses but kept it between us and hid it very well.
“The plan was never to match each other’s noses but we both have very similar tastes and like the same things, which just happened to be the same nose. We both thought Karrueche Tran had a perfect nose and it was similar to what we wanted to achieve.
“We had the surgery on the same day to support each other, this was a big thing for us and something that would change the way we felt about ourselves for the rest of our lives - of course I would want my sister with me to support and visa versa.

Last month, the site suggested that Kim dealt with similar problem that she had when she delivered daughter North in 2013. The "Keeping Up with the Kardashians" star suffered from placenta accreta, a condition in which the placenta attaches abnormally to the uterine wall. Kim revealed on her website that her doctor had to "stick his entire arm in me and detach the placenta with his hand, scraping it away from my uterus with his fingernails."

Kim previously opened up that she had some tough times during her last pregnancy. She revealed that she had to undergo in vitro fertilization treatment because "conceiving on her own wasn't possible" after she had "three surgeries to repair her uterus" following North West's birth.

Former Chelsea doctor Eva Carneiro arrived for the first tribunal hearing over case with Chelsea

Eva Carneiro has arrived for the first tribunal hearing over her constructive dismissal case with Chelsea.
Carneiro, accompanied by husband Jason De Carteret, declined to speak to the assembled media as she quickly moved inside the London South Employment Tribunal in Croydon.

This preliminary hearing is expected to be held in front of an employment judge and will fix the timetable for the case, and deal with witness statements and disclosure of documents - including texts and emails - by each side, as well as any legal procedural disputes that current exist between the two parties.
A date for a full hearing could be fixed for some time in June but there may be another preliminary hearing arranged before that takes place. The parties may also agree to a settlement before the case is heard.
The Blues filed their defence in the case last month. Carneiro also has a separate personal legal action against former Blues manager Jose Mourinho, who left the club in December, for alleged victimisation and discrimination.

The 42-year-old doctor was dropped from first-team duties after Mourinho criticised her and the first-team physio Jon Fearn for going onto the pitch to treat Eden Hazard on the opening day of the season.
The action meant that Chelsea were temporarily down to nine men against Swansea, and afterwards Mourinho called Carneiro and Fearn "impulsive and naive".
Carneiro did not appear on the bench again for first-team duties and later parted company with the club.
