Splash Turns 30

Splash Turns 30

Tom Hanks recently amazed audiences in the Academy Award-nominated Captain Phillips, and it was 30 years ago that the actor's first major movie set sail. Splash hit the big screen on March 9, 1984.

Starring Hanks and Daryl Hannah, this fishy romantic comedy tells the tale of a man who meets an enchanting mermaid named Madison during his childhood. Years later, Madison (Hannah) seeks out Hanks's character, Allen, on the mean and dry streets of NYC. Allen falls for Madison and they become entangled in a series of adorable misunderstandings.

Robin van Persie may be sold by Manchester United

Robin van Persie may be sold by Manchester United

The Dutch striker enjoyed a fine first season at Old Trafford, playing a key role in their Premier League title-winning campaign in Sir Alex Ferguson's final term in charge.

However, under new United boss David Moyes this year, Van Persie has spent time on the sidelines with injury and been below par when he has made it onto the field.

Reports in Sunday's papers suggest the club are looking to sell the 30-year-old at the end of the season and The Sun's Neil Custis suspects that could be the case.

"I think it could come to a point where United sell him at the end of the season," he told The Sunday Supplement.

"There is an argument that they are a quicker team and, certainly yesterday [in their 3-0 win over West Brom], a better team, when he isn't in it.

Jose Mourinho: Manchester City still title favourites

Jose Mourinho: Manchester City still title favourites

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho was still suggesting the Premier League title is Manchester City's to lose despite moving seven points clear at the top with a 4-0 thrashing of Tottenham Hotspur at Stamford Bridge.

Mourinho's side now have a nine-point cushion over City, but Manuel Pellegrini's side have three games in hand due to their involvement in the latter stages of both domestic cup competitions and a superior goal difference.

"I would like to be in their position, because if they win the matches they are top of the league," Mourinho said. "If we win the next nine matches, we may not be champions.
