Donald Trump
basically said to everyone, "I've told you," when he weighed in on the
tragic mass shooting in Orlando. Over the weekend, the presidential
candidate shared his reaction to the incident in an anti-Muslim tweet, which of course drew criticism from lots of people.
"Appreciate the congrats for being right on radical Islamic terrorism, I
don't want congrats, I want toughness & vigilance. We must be
smart!" he wrote. Numerous people, including outspoken famous faces like
John Legend and George Takei, then blasted Trump as they commented on his insensitive tweet.
"Trump is truly an awful person," said Legend. "Once again, Donald, you
have shown why you cannot lead us. 50 people are dead, and you bask in
congratulations," Takei agreed. Senator John McCain's daughter Meghan
McCain also slammed him, writing in her own tweet, "You're
congratulating yourself because 50 people are dead this morning in a
horrific tragedy?"
The Orlando incident was the worst mass shooting in U.S. history. 50
people died and 53 others were injured after a gunman later identified
as Omar Mateen attacked a gay nightclub on Sunday, June 12.
As if his tweet wasn't controversial enough, Trump followed it with an anti-Muslims and anti-immigrants statement
in which he suggested that President Obama should "step down" and
Hilary Clinton should "get out of this race for the Presidency" if they
refuse to say the words "Radical Islam."
"The terrorist, Omar Mir Saddique Mateen, is the son of an immigrant
from Afghanistan who openly published his support for the Afghanistani
Taliban and even tried to run for President of Afghanistan. According to
Pew, 99% of people in Afghanistan support oppressive Sharia Law," Trump
said.
"We need to protect all Americans, of all backgrounds and all beliefs,
from Radical Islamic Terrorism - which has no place in an
open
and tolerant society. Radical Islam advocates hate for women, gays,
Jews, Christians and all Americans. I am going to be a President for all
Americans, and I am going to protect and defend all Americans. We are
going to make America safe again and great again for everyone," he
added.
