City striker Sergio Aguero has confirmed he had to step in and play peace maker after Messi reacted furiously at the end of the game.
Spanish radio station COPE claims there was an “altercation” as the players left the pitch with a City player saying something to Messi before the Barcelona star responded by calling him an “imbecile.”
Messi is alleged to have headed to the City dressing room, yelling "come back here, don't hide" before being calmed down by Aguero who reassured him with two playful slaps on the chest.
Aguero suggested it was more of a general melee after the game with Messi reacting “badly” after Barcelona’s surprise Champions League defeat.
Argentina star Aguero, who is close friends with Messi, said: “Whenever you lose you’re not very happy. I saw him there, he was feeling bad. I know him well enough to know when he’s bad, when he’s good. But when you lose, nobody’s good!
“I thought Messi said something to me but he didn’t, and then we talked about other stuff. It was nothing serious. I heard something but I don’t know what happened.
“When someone loses you have to respect them. Leo wasn’t in the mood to talk and I respect that.”
