55-year-old man is arrested after he allegedly wed a six-year-old girl in return for a goat

A 55-year-old man has been arrested after he allegedly wed a girl who was just six years old - in return for a goat.
Seyed Abdolkarim was taken in by officers after police were told he had married the child, named only as Gharibgol, in a religious ceremony.
The child was reportedly sold by her father who was also arrested by police after they claimed he exchanged her for the goat, along with rice, tea, sugar, and cooking oil.
He said he had been struggling to look after the family, and that exchanging his daughter meant he gained food and lost a mouth to feed.
The footage above was taken by Fawad Ahmady working for The Observers , and shows the arrest of Gharibgol’s father in his village as local women attacked him and beat him up.
He said that Abdolkarim had promised he wouldn't sleep with Gharibgol until she was 18.
Following the marriage, the respected imam Abdolkarim was said to have taken his new wife to a relative's house in Firozkoh, in Ghor province, as his daughter.

But they became concerned when they realised "he was undressing her at night" according to the report.
Mr Ahmady writes: "So he asked the mullah, 'she’s not your daughter?'
"The mullah replied, 'no, she’s my wife; her father gave her to me'. The host told a friend, who called the local women rights bureau for Ghor province."
Tests carried out by the hospital in Ghor show that "there was no sexual intercourse".
The child is currently being housed in a safe location with her mother.
The province's women’s rights bureau intends to ensure a divorce and the removal of the father's parental rights, but it will be a complex process as another imam must carry out the divorce - which is frowned upon in the culture.
The arrangement has gone viral in Afghanistan where the law states that women are permitted to wed from 16 and men from 18 - but influential imams can escape punishment, according to Mr Ahmady.

A father giggles as he feeds beer to his 10-month old baby in a shocking video that has sparked outrage online.
The irresponsible dad has been blasted by viewers who saw the footage on What's App, as well as the mother who reportedly filmed the incident.
The clip starts with the infant crawling around the floor, before the man appears holding two bottles of unopened beer.
At first he pretends to give his child a drink from the larger glass bottle while the cap is still on.
He then bites off the cap before placing the beverage to the child’s mouth.
Later in the footage he pushes the baby’s head towards the drink to force it to take a sip.
The child is also seen trying to drink from a brown coloured bottled which still has the lid on.
The family has not been identified but the footage was filmed in Chennai, south-east India.
After the clip went viral on the free-texting service, several horrified viewers accused the parents of putting their child's life at risk.
It is not yet known if police have been made aware of the clip, or if any further action will be taken against the parents.

Bizarre moment police unzip a woman's suitcase and found an 11-year-old boy hiding inside

This is the moment police opened a suspect suitcase at a coach station - and found an 11-year-old boy hiding inside.
Now the woman who tried to sneak the youngster on board back to her home could be facing up to six years in jail for false imprisonment.
Natasha Vitoriano Souto was stopped as she boarded the bus for 550-mile journey from Rio de Janeiro back to her house in south Brazil after fellow passengers claimed to see a hand poking out of her luggage.
When police opened the suitcase, the boy instantly jumped out to the amazement of officers.
Souto, 23, told police the boy had begged her to adopt him, as his mother was a drug addict and he had been abused.

According to Globo TV she said: "I was going to take him to my house. I found him in the street in Botafogo near the traffic lights. He asked me 'for the love of God, adopt me please'."
The child has since been taken into care.
In a statement, The Civil Police said no charges had yet been brought against Souto.
But if she is found guilty of false imprisonment of a child, she could face between two to six years in jail.
