As previously reported, Janet Jackson accepted the first-ever Ultimate Icon: Music Dance Visual Award at the 2015 BET Awards on Sunday night, June 28. The singer attended the ceremony airing from the Microsoft Theater in L.A. to collect her prize and thanked everyone for the honor during her speech.
"It's been a very long journey to this moment," said Jackson. "My heart is so full. Thank you, God, for making everything, anything possible. I'm so grateful for the support You have always given me." She went on to thank her parents and her husband Wissam Al Mana before telling her fans, "I've missed you so much, and I love you so much."
To celebrate Jackson's award, she's honored with an amazing tribute from singers/dancers Tinashe, Jason Derulo and Ciara. Each of them performed a dance to the 49-year-old singer's songs like "Rhythm Nation" and "All for You".
Breezy bagged the Best Male R&B/Pop Artist and the Fandemonium Awards. Bey, meanwhile, won the Best Female R&B/Pop Artist and Video of the Year for her "7/11". As for Minaj, she's named Best Female Hip-Hop Artist. Her "Only" featuring Lil Wayne, Drake and Brown earned the Coca-Cola Viewers' Choice Award.
Other notable winners in music included Kendrick Lamar (Best Male Hip-Hop Artist), The Weeknd (Centric Award for "Earned It"), Rae Sremmurd (Best Group), Sam Smith (Best New Artist), Common and John Legend (Best Collaboration for "Glory") and Lecrae (Best Gospel Artist).
In movie categories, "Selma" nabbed the Best Movie gong while Terrence Howard and Taraji P. Henson won the Best Actor and Best Actress, respectively. In sports categories, Stephen Curry was named Sportsman of the Year and Serena Williams won the Sportswoman of the Year title.
