David De Gea's girlfriend 'Edurne Garcia' behind his potential move to Real Madrid

David De Gea's pop star girlfriend Edurne Garcia is the driving force behind his proposed move to Real Madrid this summer, writes Tom Hopkinson in the Sunday People.

The 24-year-old keeper has made no secret of his desire to return to his home city – but it seems his reasons are as much personal as professional.

De Gea and Garcia, who is representing Spain in this year’s Eurovision Song Contest, plan to marry next year and she is keen to remain in Spain to further her career.

Madrid will offer United up to £20million, plus add-ons, to secure De Gea’s signature on a five-year deal.

Tottenham’s Hugo Lloris is United’s top target to replace him, with Stoke’s Asmir Begovic and Atletico Madrid’s Jan Oblak also in the running.

Garcia hit the headlines earlier this year, when she professed Manchester was 'uglier than the back of a fridge'.

Pablo Motos, host of evening light entertainment show El Hormiguero, quizzed her about her trips to Manchester before asking her: “I’ve been told Manchester is uglier than the back of a fridge.”

She replied: “It’s not very nice, that’s for sure. You have to hunt out specific places, the nicer places.

“But even then Spain is nicer. The reason I like it is because David’s there. With him being there, everything looks wonderful.”

De Gea will reportedly call a 'family meeting', including Garcia, to thrash out where he will be playing his football next season.

Irina Shayk dumped Cristiano Ronaldo because he cheated on her

Footballer Cristiano Ronaldo was dumped by long-term girlfriend Irina Shayk after she claimed he cheated.

The pair called an end to their five-year relationship earlier this year and at the time said the decision was mutual.

But reports have now claimed Victoria's Secret stunner Irina dumped the Real Madrid star after finding messages on his phone from 'dozens of women'.

A source told The Sun: "For so long she trusted him and stuck up for him but now she feels completely let down and betrayed."

The publication also claimed the 29-year-old beauty, who is now dating Hollywood actor Bradley Cooper, received messages from anonymous women saying they had flirted with Cristiano.

Their relationship reportedly came to an end after Irina checked his mobile phone statements and discovered numbers attached to women from across the world.

The source added: "She immediately confronted Cristiano about it, but he initially denied any knowledge.

"After she explained to him what she had found he eventually admitted to messaging the girls.

"She couldn't believe it so immediately got out of the house. She ended the relationship there and then."

At the time news broke of their split in January, Cristiano said: "After dating for five years, my relationship with Irina Shayk has come to an end.

"We believed it would be best for both of us to take this step now."

In a written statement, he added: "I wish Irina the greatest happiness."
