1. Television

On television, Girls and Game of Thrones (pictured) will return to HBO, Jimmy Fallon will take over The Tonight Show in February, How I Met Your Mother will end in March, and the show 24 will air for the first time in four years. The final season of Mad Men will begin in the spring, and with any luck, most of us will go back to not caring about Duck Dynasty.

2. Climate Change

Unfortunately, we’re likely to see more extreme weather events and natural disasters like Typhoon Haiyan in 2014. While arctic sea ice recovered a bit this year, geopolitical scrambles over oil-rich Arctic sea beds are likely to continue, and weather patterns are likely to change. Whether or not you agree with the scientific consensus about climate change, it’s clear that we need to reconsider where we’re building our homes and cities, and how we can best protect people from future disasters. On the bright side, we’ll also get to see more stunning photos of historic snow storms. 

3. Sports

Between Russia’s Winter Olympics and Brazil’s World Cup, 2014 will be a huge year for both global sporting events — and for protests concerning gay rights and economic inequality.

TheNigeria's most premium awards show 'Headies 2013', was held on Thursday, December 26, 2013 at the Oriental Hotel in Victoria Island, Lagos, Nigeria. 

Hosted by the suave hip-hop artiste, Dr Sid & delectable songstress, Tiwa Savage, this year’s nomination had the tightest competition with a selection of some of the hottest names in the Nigerian music scene.

Olamide emerged the biggest winner of the night with three awards. Fast rising Afro pop artiste, Sean Tizzle also won the Next rated awards and a Hyundai Tucson SUV. Davido also bagged the Hip Hop World Revelation of the year award and Best R&B/Pop Album.

The Hall of Fame award went to legendary Fuji musician, King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal who later closed the show with a five-star performance.

Jet Li is battling hyperthyroidism

The Chinese action movie star reveals his health issue during the taping of a Chinese talent show where he is judging. "I have hyperthyroidism, sometimes I'd lose 15 kilograms, sometimes I'd gain 15 kilograms," he says.

"I'm really fat right now. That's a fact. And I haven't had a chance to slim down, because the medication I am taking controls my heart rate, so I cannot exercise...," he continues. "I'll wait until the doctor says I can do simple exercises before slimming down."

The martial arts actor, 50, is determined to beat the illness, "I have brilliant days when I am at my best... as well as days when I question whether I can still continue working. I can be in pain, but I cannot cry, and must face it head on."

"I'm just a regular guy, I'm not Wong Fei Hung, I'm not Huo Yuan Jia," the actor continues, referring to the kung fu heroes he portrays on films, "I'm not a hero. I'm just like you." He adds, "I'm in pain, but I'm not suffering. I'm happy."

Jet Li will reprise his role as Yin Yang, a hand-to-hand combat expert, in Sylvester Stallone's "The Expendables 3".
