"I can't say I was entirely surprised by the news. Like many, I've become severely exhausted myself just trying to keep up with him," Piers wrote. Noting that "Kanye's always been a bit weird," he said that "the rap superstar has behaved in an increasingly erratic and bizarre manner" for the past 18 months.
He mentioned some of Kanye's recent antics, from his controversial song "Famous" and its raunchy music video to his onstage rant during his show in Sacramento, where he slammed Beyonce Knowles and Jay-Z among others.
While Kanye's family and friends said the rapper was suffering from "exhaustion," Piers said, "I suspect the truth is that he's suffering from a far more dangerous health hazard: fame addiction." He went on suggesting that Kanye "is a celebrity junkie" and being married to Kim Kardashian only caused him to spiral out of control.
"There can never be enough drama, attention-seeking antics, showing off, bling-blasting, and transparently fake 'look at my perfect universe' bulls**t," Piers wrote, "It's a vapid, soulless, money-grabbing hellhole from which no semblance of dignity can be preserved." The former "America's Got Talent" judge added, "But he couldn't stop himself, because in Kim Kardashian and her family he identified a bunch of people just as fame-hungry as him."
Piers' column about Kanye has since got mixed responses from readers. While some people dubbed the article "amazing" and "well said," some others slammed him for suggesting that Kim and her family were to blame for Kanye's problem.
"Insomnia, grandiose statements, irrational behaviour - he's developed a psychiatric condition. Well done for mocking him," one Twitter user wrote.
