Widow is gang-raped as 'punishment' for having an affair with a married man in Indonesia - and now she will be caned in public under Sharia law

Public punishment: The 25-year-old woman faces up to nine strokes of the cane in Banda Aceh province
An Indonesian widow who was gang-raped by eight 'vigilantes' as punishment for having an affair with a married man, is now to suffer the further indignity of being caned in public.
The rapists caught the couple together when they barged into her house in the northern Indonesian province of Banda Aceh and accused her of having 'improper sexual relations' with the 40-year-old man.
The 25-year-old woman's companion was tied up and beaten, while she was raped repeatedly. Then the two of them were doused with buckets of sewage.
It was only after the terrified woman was dragged to a police station by her attackers and reported for breaking strict Sharia laws against extra-marital sex then it was learned she had been raped.
Three of the vigilantes were immediately detained and charged with rape as their companions fled - but that did not prevent police deciding to punish the woman with a caning for breaking religious laws.
'The woman and the man will both be caned because they have violated a religious bylaw on sexual relations,' Mr Ibrahim Latif, head of the Shariah office in the eastern town of Langsa, told the Jakarta Globe.
He said the fact that the woman had been raped would not be taken into consideration in determining the punishment for the religious crime she had allegedly committed.

Religious laws: Her 40-year-old companion also faces the public humiliation after being caught having 'improper sexual relations'
Mr Ibrahim said the woman and her companion had confessed to having sex on several previous occasions even though the man is married and has five children.
Under the religious law, the woman and her lover face up to nine strokes of the cane each - and the punishmen will be carried out in a public place.
The three arrested rapists - who include a 13-year-old boy - would have faced the same number of cane strokes if they had been charged under Shariah law - but they are facing charges in a criminal court.
The hunt continues for the five others.
It is not the first time in Aceh that a woman accused of inappropriate conduct with an 'unrelated male' - her husband - has been summarily raped.
In the same town of Langsa, a 20-year-old university student was raped by three Shariah police officers in January 2010 after being caught riding on a motor cycle with her boyfriend.
The town's Sharia police chief was later sacked and two of the rapists were sentenced to eight years in prison. The third, said the Jakarta Globe was never caught.

The world's tallest bride: 6ft 8in Brazilian teenager to marry her 5ft 4in boyfriend

Elisany's height still draws stares, even in her hometown, but Francinaldo says the attention doesn't bother him and he is proud to show her off
Brazil's loftiest teen is set to become the world's tallest bride after her compact fiancee popped the big question.
Aspiring model Elisany da Cruz Silva - who is a staggering 6ft 8ins tall - has been dating 5ft 4ins Francinaldo da Silva Carvalho for more than three years.
Despite a massive 1ft 4ins between them, Francinaldo had no problem increasing the distance by dropping to one knee after a romantic stroll along the beach.

With well over a foot difference between their heights, Elisany and Francinaldo have more difficulty than most couples kissing after becoming engaged
The lovestruck pair have shared a small home in the Brazilian town of Salinopolis for one year and are hoping to soon hear the pitter patter of tiny feet.
Elisany is so stuck on having a child that she is willing to adopt if she does not fall pregnant soon - despite being only 18.
The youngster is worried that she may not conceive because of a form of gigantism that was caused when a tumour grew on her pituitary gland.

Elisany seen here as a young, aspiring model, is so stuck on having a child that she is willing to adopt if she does not fall pregnant soon - despite being only 18
Despite this the couple are still looking forward to a long and happy life together.
Remembering the romantic proposal, Elisany said: 'I told him many times, 'do not ask me to marry you because my answer will be no' - I think that's what he was thinking.
'I was so nervous when I saw him there. I don't even know how I coped.'
Construction worker Francinaldo added: 'I have always wanted to go out with a tall girl and she came and fitted into that perfectly.'
The couple are planning on a long engagement despite Elisany already having a dress for the big day.

The newly engaged couple have not always seen eye to eye and Francinaldo had to work hard to get the ring on Elisany's finger, but the couple now can not wait to wed
'We think how will the preparations for the wedding be, the church, the best men and bridesmaids,' added Francinaldo.
'We have taken just one step towards the wedding - which was me asking her to marry me.
'We are giving it some time to get it all in order.'
The newly engaged couple have not always seen eye to eye and Francinaldo had to work hard to get the ring on Elisany's finger.
'When we met I had already turned 16,' she said.
'I was still a bit childish and so I was just playing around with him for a while and I got so annoyed with him - as if he was a rival that I hated.
'I just didn't like him and wanted to hit him every time we met.'
But little Francinaldo has a big heart and remembers their meeting a little differently.
He said: 'The first time I saw her I went to get some bread and I noticed her from a distance.
'I checked her out and she also checked me out straight away.
'Then I just thought, "I need to be with that girl". I always found her beautiful.'
And the hate eventually turned to love for Elisany when she became jealous of Francinaldo's prowess with the ladies.
'He was talking to another girl and I was jealous,' she said.
'He intrigued me - I wanted to know more about him.'
Despite the pair being completely in love, not everyone is as happy about the new engagement.
Elisany's mother, Ana Maria Ramos, said: 'I don't know how this could happen - this proposal.
'It was a surprise - no-one was expecting it.
'In spite of everything she is still a very young girl with a lot ahead of her.
'She is sometimes a bit difficult to him but I've never seen him treating her badly.
'He has been an excellent person.'
Elisany still draws stares while walking down the street where she has lived her entire life and is often referred to as the giant girl.
Francinaldo said: 'I keep telling her to get out more so that people don't feel so curious about her.
'When we go for a walk people keep staring saying 'look at that giant girl'.
'It really bothers me because people don't have the consciousness of thinking that she's also a human being.'
But despite drawing stares Francinaldo cannot wait to show off his new fiancie.
He added: ' am always boasting about being with her.
'Everyone thinks she is beautiful - my friends think she is beautiful.
'They always ask me to take her to meet them but she won't go because she's embarrassed.
'She is a person that is very different and I know I can make her happy.
'Our relationship is special because she understands me and I understand her.'

Brendan Rodgers: Reds 'will fight for our lives'

Brendan Rodgers: Reds 'will fight for our lives'

A day after Liverpool saw the Premier League trophy likely slip from their grasps, manager Brendan Rodgers promised the team would "fight for their lives as you never know what can happen."
Speaking to a captive audience at the club's own inaugural awards dinner, Rodgers suggested there was still a glimmer of hope.
"This season the players have allowed the supporters to dream and for a club of this size and magnitude -- to be a point ahead at the top of the table with a week to go you never know what can happen -- it has been magnificent," he said.
"I promise for the time I am here we will fight for our lives and we won't finish until Newcastle."
Rodgers, who received a standing ovation from his players after winning an outstanding achievement award less than two years into his tenure, maintained there were still positives to take from the season.
"Last night was difficult. If you were in the changing room last night you would have felt how much it mattered to everyone.
"The key thing to remember is the journey we are on is going to have good and bad times but through it all we have to stick together as that is the Liverpool way.
"We will finish the season strong and keep going to strive to be the best."
While the title Liverpool have waited 24 years for may now not materialise, captain Steven Gerrard insisted the season had not been a failure.
"It has been incredible. There is no doubt to bring Champions League football back is an unbelievable achievement as it is so difficult to achieve," he said. "We've made huge strides as a team and we will continue to fight all the way to the end.
"We will have to wait and see how the final couple of games pan out but we'll keep our fingers crossed. The plan is to go and beat Newcastle. If it is not to be, we keep fighting.
"The biggest message when you sign for this club is you never get too high when you win an award or trophy and you never get too down when one slips away -- literally slips away.
"You continue to fight game by game but for me I stand here really proud of my teammates and have a huge belief that if this group of players stick together and we can make the right additions in the summer the future is bright for the club."
Luis Suarez added to his personal trophy collection on Tuesday, claiming another hat-trick with three trophies for goal of the season (, players' player of the year and player of the year, as voted by fans.
Raheem Sterling was voted as Liverpool's young player of the year after scoring 10 times is 37 appearances. Academy players voted Jordan Rossiter their player of the year, while Nicole Rolser received the Liverpool Ladies player of the year prize.

Miley Cyrus Denies She Was Hospitalized Due to Drug Overdose

Miley Cyrus is ready to go back to work after severe allergic reactions to antibiotics put her in hospital for two weeks. The twerking singer talked about her preparation to continue her "Bangerz" tour and addressed drug overdose rumors during a press conference at the O2 arena in London on Tuesday, May 6.

"I'm the poster child for good health," Cyrus told media, as quoted by PEOPLE. "You have no idea how ready I am. There is nothing I would rather not do than lay in a bed for two weeks. It was the most miserable two weeks of my life."

The "Wrecking Ball" singer also shared that she felt "better than ever" after the hospital stay, adding, "I'm on this crazy vitamin rush and crazy honey and lavender. Vidic celebrate with James Wilson
Ryan Giggs made a cameo appearance off the bench and Nemanja Vidic said goodbye to Old Trafford, but it was Manchester United debutant James Wilson who stole the show as he scored twice to sink Hull.
Wilson, 18, scored from close range either side of half-time, and Robin van Persie also found the net as United beat Hull 3-1 in the final home game of the season.
This year may have been the worst in recent memory, but at least United ended on a high thanks to impressive performances from Wilson, fellow debutant Tom Lawrence and 18-year-old Adnan Januzaj, who was superb throughout.

But for all the energy shown by the three youngsters, it was Giggs who drew the biggest cheer of the night when he came off the bench with 20 minutes to go.
Giggs will not be manager here next year. He may not even play a game for the club again.
Giggs, who is expected to be replaced by Louis van Gaal, wrote in his programme notes that he had not made up his mind about his future, but he added that it had been "an honour and privilege" to manage the club's final three home games of the season.
The midfielder, who gave an emotional message of thanks to the fans after the final whistle, also said in his notes that he was in two minds as to whether he should continue playing under Van Gaal next.
