Oscar Pistorius kisses family goodbye after being jailed for six years

Oscar Pistorius has been jailed for six years for the murder of girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp this morning.
The Olympic and Paralympic icon repeatedly shot the 29-year-old model after she barricaded herself in the bathroom of his home in Pretoria on February 2013.
He appeared at North Gauteng High Court this morning after a three-and-a-half year legal battle.

Oscar arrives in Jail

Right after sentencing, Pistorius was taken to the cells. He has now arrived at Kgosi Mampuru correctional facility. It is said he will serve at least half of his sentence before being eligible for parole.

Pistorius will serve 'between half and two thirds of the sentence' before he can apply for parole

Pistorius will serve “between half and two thirds of the sentence” before he can apply for parole, said Andrew Fawcett, Pistorius’ instructing attorney.

Pistorius will NOT appeal six year sentence

Just as Reeva’s Barry said he hoped there would be no appeal, Pistorius’ defence has just released an official statement. They have confirmed that they will not lodge an appeal. After the sentence, Pistorius was taken straight down to the cells.

Reeva's father: 'I hope not to be back here again'

Reeva’s father Barry has told Sky News in a quick interview: “I hope to not be back here again.”
It is understood that because of Pistorius’ financial situation following a three-year legal wrangle, he may not appeal this sentence.
