On the same day as being named on FIFA’s three-man shortlist for the
Ballon d’Or, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo have also been named on a
15-man shortlist of forwards as part of the process to decide the 2013
FIFA FIFPro World XI.
FIFA revealed on Monday afternoon that the duo, along with Franck Ribery, are to fight it out for the Ballon d’Or, and FIFPro followed up the news with its own announcement for an award that will also be handed out on Jan. 13 in Zurich, Switzerland.
Barcelona’s Neymar and Atletico Madrid’s Diego Costa are also players
currently playing in La Liga to make the shortlist, while the Premier
League has four nominations -- Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero,
Manchester United’s Robin van Persie and Wayne Rooney, and Liverpool’s
Luis Suarez.
Paris Saint-Germain have also had two of their players recognised --
alongside Barcelona and United -- in Edinson Cavani and Zlatan
Ibrahimovic.
