Here are the 20 most expensive buildings on Planet Earth


Whether it's for tourism or worship, there are plenty of buildings around the world which race past the $1 billion mark when it comes to the price of construction.
Thanks to wealthy individuals, there are residential properties on the luxe list, and due to the power of finance there's even a major global banking institution.
The expensive erections have been shared by Fly Abu Dhabi , and the phenomenal construction costs of some of the world's most iconic structures are completely eye-watering.

THE MOST EXPENSIVE BUILDINGS ON EARTH 

XX Petronas Twin Towers, Kuala Lumpur ($1.16 billion)

Often featured in films including Entrapment released in 1999 starring Sean Connery and Catherine Zeta Jones.
Noted as being the tallest buildings between 1998 and 2004, they are still the record-holding twin towers in the world.

XIX Burj Khalifa, Dubai ($1.5 billion)

Noted as the world's tallest building, the modern marvel built in 2010 measures 2,720ft. If the windows were to be cleaned by hand, it would take 36 workers FOUR MONTHS to complete.

XVIII Wembley Stadium, London ($1.5 billion)

It's not just a sporting icon here in the UK - the second largest stadium in Europe , built in 2006, has the most TOILETS of any venue on the planet, an impressive 2,618.

XVII Yankee Stadium, New York ($1.5 billion)

The sports ground was rebuilt in 2009, although it kept many of its iconic features. If you add in the cost of the first stadium, it's the most expensive sports venue ever built.

XVI European Central Bank, Frankfurt ($1.5 billion)

These two towers, joined by one atrium, were built in 2013. Before that, the financial centre had to be house in four different buildings.

The famous casino which featured in Ocean's Eleven in 2001, the building was built in 1998 and features 2,000 hand-blown glass flowers which cover 2,000ft sq of the lobby's ceiling.

XIV Taipei 101, Taiwan ($1.8 billion)

The world's tallest 'green' building at 1,670ft, this 2004 construction has been built to withstand all of Mother Nature's thrashings, including typhoons, gales and earthquakes.

XIII The Palazzo, Las Vegas ($1.8 billion)

Built in 2007, the Palazzo lobby has a glass dome measuring 60ft up with a two-storey fountain.
It's the second largest building in the Western Hemisphere.

XII Antilla, Mumbai ($2 billion)

The eye-catching private home of Indian business magnate Mukesh Ambani, this building, erected in 2010, boasts a staff of 600.

XI Princess Tower, Dubai ($2.17 billion)

Dubai's second tallest building boasts 107 storeys and was built in 2012. Briefly the tallest residential building in the world, it's now second to 432 Park Avenue in New York.

X The Venetian Macao, Macau ($2.4 billion)

An astonishing homage to the beauty of Venice, this 2005 building is the seventh largest in the world, boasting an area of 10,500,000ft sq.

IX City of Dreams, Macau ($2.4 billion)

It's more of a resort really, boasting the Dancing Water Theatre and the Bubble Fountain. Built in 2009, it also features 1,514 gaming machines.

VIII Wynn Resort, Las Vegas ($2.7 billion)

Renowned as one of the world's best hotels, the 2005 Nevada venue has the world's largest distribution of HD TVs.

VII Emirates Palace, Abu Dhabi ($3 billion)

A luxe five-star resort built in 2005, this is the second most expensive hotel ever built.
It's got 144 domes which measure 262ft high.

VI One World Trade Centre, Manhattan ($3.8 billion)      

Built in 2012, the incredible height of 1,776ft is in homage to the year the United States Declaration of Independence was signed.

V The Cosmopolitan, Las Vegas ($3.90 billion)

The hotel's two towers are each 604ft tall, while the 2010 venue has 2,995 rooms, a casino, restaurants, spa and theatre.

IV Marina Bay Sands, Singapore ($5.5 billion)

Each of these 2010 towers are 55 storeys tall - all connected by a hectare-sized roof terrace called Sands Sky Park.

III Resorts World Sentosa, Singapore ($6.59 billion)

The 2012 resort is huge, and features two casinos, an aquarium, the world's largest oceanarium, a theme park and a water park.

II Abraj Al Bait, Mecca ($15 billion)

Built in 2012, the Saudi Arabian building's spire is 305ft with a 75ft high golden crescent.
The clock faces, measuring 141ft by 141ft are the world's largest.

I Al-Haram Mosque, Mecca ($100 billion)

This is the largest mosque in the world, and construction has been ongoing since the year 638. The destination for pilgrims from all over the globes, the area of the building is 356,800m.
