Police in Los Angeles say they were called to the star's house at around 11.15am yesterday to reports of a man "brandishing a firearm".
When they arrived, a driver alleged the hip hop mogul - real name Andre Young - pulled out a gun and ordered him to move his car from the end of his driveway.
In a press release, the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department said the Beats entrepreneur was "searched, handcuffed, and briefly detained in a patrol car" while they investigated.
They added he was "cooperative with investigating deputies, consented to a search of his person, and denied all allegations regarding the handgun."
He said the motorist drove a short distance down the road, but came back a short time later and did the same thing.
The Straight Outta Compton star said he pulled out his mobile phone to film the incident and the person drove away. He denied threatening him.
Police added they found no weapon at the scene, the rapper was not taken into custody, and no arrests were made.
