According to WWE.com , it is the three-time WWE World Heavyweight Champion's first wellness violation since joining the promotion.
In a statement, the company today said: "WWE has suspended Joe Anoa`i (Roman Reigns) for 30 days effective immediately for his first violation of the company’s talent wellness policy."
The 31-year-old, from Pensacola, Florida, took to Twitter to say sorry.
He posted: "I apologize to my family, friends and fans for my mistake in violating WWE’s wellness policy. No excuses. I own it."
World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) implemented its Talent Wellness Program on February 27, 2006.I apologize to my family, friends and fans for my mistake in violating WWE’s wellness policy. No excuses. I own it.— Roman Reigns (@WWERomanReigns) June 21, 2016
It has two components, an aggressive substance abuse and drug testing policy, and a cardiovascular testing and monitoring program.
Reigns unexpectedly lost the WWE World Heavyweight Championship to Seth Rollins at the Money in the Bank pay-per-view on Sunday.
Dean Ambrose then cashed in his newly-won Money In The Bank contract to take the title from Rollins, in what may now be considered prescient booking.
Last night on Raw, a Triple Threat match was announced between the trio at WWE Battleground event on July 24.
That match could still take place, as Reigns' suspension is set to end on July 20.
WWE has positioned Roman as the new face of the company over the past 18 months, with the superstar headlining WrestleMania 31 and 32 and winning the WWE World Heavyweight Championship from Triple H in April.
However, his supposedly heroic character has received negative reviews from critics and fans alike, despite his performances contributing to some of the best matches in WWE this past year.
