Hollywood has just lost one of its great talents. Oscar-winning actor Robin Williams died on Monday, August 11 of an apparent suicide. He was 63.
The Marin County Sheriff's Department confirmed the death, saying the officials received a 911 call at around 11:55 A.M. on Monday. A man was reported unresponsive in his home in Tiburon and was pronounced dead at the scene. Police are still investigating the circumstances of his death but the early suspicion is death due to asphyxia. A forensic examination is currently scheduled for Tuesday, the press release said.
Williams was known to have struggled with cocaine and alcohol addiction. He entered the Hazelden Addiction Treatment Center in Minnesota in June to "fine-tune and focus on his continued commitment, of which he remains extremely proud."
"Robin Williams passed away this yesterday," the actor's rep Mara Buxbaum said in a statement on Monday. "He has been battling severe depression of late. This is a tragic and sudden loss. The family respectfully asks for their privacy as they grieve during this very difficult time.
Fox, that is due to release the third "Night at the Museum" film, said, "There really are no words to describe the loss of Robin Williams. He was immensely talented, a cherished member of our community, and part of the Fox family. Our hearts go out to his family, friends and fans. He will be deeply missed."
Williams was dubbed the "funniest man alive" by Entertainment Weekly in 1997. He rose to popularity for his role as Mork in sitcom "Mork & Mindy". He was then lauded for his performances in "Good Will Hunting", "Mrs. Doubtfire", "Dead Poets Society" and "The Fisher King" among others.
