Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini
believes it would be "disappointing for football" if Chelsea were to
win the Premier League this season.
City and title
rivals Liverpool have easily outscored Jose Mourinho's side this season,
with Pellegrini bemoaning their more cautious style of play.
Liverpool have scored 90 league goals in 33 games this season, with City notching up 84 from 31 games.
In contrast, Chelsea have struck just 65 times in their 33 matches
and Pellegrini feels the team that wins the title should offer more
entertainment than that.
"It would be very disappointing, for football, for the fans, for everyone," he said.
"I think that the most attractive football, the more goals you can score, should be rewarded.
"I'm not saying it's not important to defend very well. Football is
attacking and defending. But I think that big teams must play as big
teams."
Pellegrini also took a swipe at Mourinho and Liverpool boss Brendon
Rodgers for repeatedly refusing to admit their teams are serious
contenders for the crown.
"I don't think it's true. Maybe they are covering for if they don't
win the title," the Chilean said of his counterparts' cautious approach
to talking up their title challenges.
"But really, I don't think both of the managers feel that that is the reality. This profession is about pressure.
"I
can't believe being in this profession without pressure. And more
important, when you manage important teams, is to have the chance to win
the title.
"I don't know what their players think, but I'm sure if I said to my
players we don't have any pressure to win, I don't think that would
work.
"I don't think the players agree - not important players - that they
don't have a chance of winning the title.
Not when they are one point or
two points off the top. When they are 10 points away, maybe.
"But I don't think Chelsea players or Liverpool players believe they don't have pressure to win the title."
