The Growing Shoe: Pastor Kenton Lee Invented An Expanding Shoe That Can Solve Poverty Issues

Designer, inventor and Pastor Kenton Lee created the Shoe That Grows, an ingenious pair of expandable shoes for children that easily morph and grow in size and have a lifespan of around five years.
The idea came to Lee one day when he was walking to church while working in Nairobi, Kenya with HIV/AIDS orphans, and saw a young girl in her Sunday dress, but with shoes that were way too small for her.
"I'll never forget it. One day I was walking down a road with a group of kids from an orphanage where I was staying," Lee told the Daily Mail. "Next to me there was a girl in a white dress. As I looked down, her shoes were so small, and as I looked around, there were so many other kids with shoes that were too small for them."
The innovation was a collaboration between Lee and the company Proof of Concept. Together, they came up with a design for a shoe that expands in the front, the back and the side.
This project was overseen and launched by Because International, a charity for which Lee is also the executive director.
The shoes cost between $12 and $30, depending on the size of the order, and could be a cost-effective and simple way of saving millions of lives from easily preventable diseases, such as parasite infections.
The Shoe That Grows partners with other organizations on the ground in Ecuador, Haiti, Ghana and Kenya to get the shoes to those who need them most.
Toms Shoes has participated in a similar initiative through their One for One program, which gives a child in need a pair of shoes for every purchase. They've given away 35 million to date.
However, some have argued that Toms' lack of durability (people have reported a lifespan of anywhere between 2 weeks and 2 years) and inefficient business model mean their initiative is not actually all that effective.
And, of course, the shoes don't grow with the kids wearing them. The feet of children between the ages of 2 and 3 years-old, for example, grow roughly two full sizes a year, so normal shoes don't last long.
The hope, then, is that the Shoe That Grows will offer a more sustainable solution to what is a straightforward problem.
When something as simple as the absence of shoes can take a child's life, there's no excuse not to try and fix this.

The Instagram photos were taken by photographer Mert Alas, whom Miley posed nude for in the March 2014 issue of W magazine.

Chris Brown shares on Instagram first photo together with daughter Royalty

Chris Brown posted on Instagram a first photo of him with his daughter Royalty on Thursday, April 16. In the image, he sports matching red hooded jumper with the 10-month-old little girl, who sits in his lap. He captioned the photo, "God has blessed me with my twin #Royalty," as he confirmed that the little brunette is his daughter.
A source said that the "No Air" singer wanted to spend more time with his daughter. Brown has reportedly asked his baby mama, model Nia Amey, to move to Los Angeles because it is the only way Brown can see his daughter everyday. "He asked Nia to move to L.A. with their daughter and he'll foot the bill for housing," the source said. "He's not romantically involved with Nia, but we're told he genuinely wants a meaningful relationship with Royalty. He's saying he'd like to see her every day.'

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice leaked online

Though the first trailer for the upcoming Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice was scheduled to be released Monday, what appears to be a very real version of the first trailer has already been leaked online, complete with Portuguese subtitles, an unclear origin and a shaky video capture. A teaser of the teaser was already posted Wednesday, but now we're already being treated to the first look at the full teaser trailer for the forthcoming superhero crossover film.
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, which is scheduled to premiere March 25, 2016, was directed by Zack Snyder and will feature Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill in the titular roles respectively, along with other big names such as Amy Adams, Jesse Eisenberg, Diane Lane, Laurence Fishburne, Jeremy Irons, Holly Hunter and Gal Gadot.
Few details are so far known about the film, but based on the leaked trailer, it appears the public has turned on Superman, calling him a "false god."
Following in the footsteps of the wildly successful Dark Knight trilogy, Batman v Superman also looks like it will take a decidedly darker approach to the story.
Though this darker direction will be in line with what most fans are used to from recent Batman films, it may be more of a departure for Superman, whose films are either the more straightforward Christopher Reeve quartet of the late '70s and '80s, 2006's mostly innocuous Superman Returns or 2013's Man of Steel, the first in the D.C. cinematic universe, which garnered mixed reviews.
Batman v Superman also marks the D.C. universe's foray into the increasingly popular crossover space in which the Marvel universe has been enjoying so much success and excitement with the Avengers films.
Time will tell whether Affleck's Batman will be able to live up to the bar set by Christian Bale's impressive performances and whether Snyder will be able to pull off what sounds like an idea that's equal parts extremely exciting and potentially very difficult to execute well. In the meantime, enjoy the leaked trailer while you still can — it may be removed soon.

Orthodox Israeli website cuts Kim Kardashian out of photo..she symbolizes pornography

News media magnet Kim Kardashian experienced a major photo cut out when an Orthodox Israeli website decided to cover her famous face with a dinner receipt. Kikar HaShabbat website cut the reality TV star from the original photo that showed her, husband Kanye West, and Jerusalem's Mayor Nir Barkat having a dinner at an undisclosed restaurant during their recent visit to the country. Besides blurring her face, the website wouldn't even refer to her by name in the article and instead mentioning her simply as Kanye's wife.
According to Nissim Ben Haim, an editor at the Kikar HaShabbat website, they removed Kim because they considered her as a "pornographic symbol" who contradicted ultra-Orthodox values. Furthermore, it was explained that "within the insular Ultra-Orthodox community, pictures of women often aren't shown out of modesty."
The Kikar HaShabbat website, additionally, took aim at the mayor for taking Kim and Kanye dining at a non-kosher restaurant. "Insensitive: Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat and his wife last night hosted Kanye West and his wife, who are visiting Israel at a [non-kosher] restaurant in the capital without considering the majority of city residents who keep kosher," so read the article in English.

Kim and Kanye were in the country to have their daughter North being baptized at the Cathedral of Sts. James in the historic Armenian Quarter of the Old City of Jerusalem. During the visit, the celebrity couple took time to have dinner with Mayor Nir Barkat.

Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling might reunite for Romantic Musical 'La La Land'

Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone, who previously co-starred in "Crazy, Stupid, Love." and "Gangster Squad", might reunite for romantic musical movie "La La Land". According to Deadline, Stone will play an aspiring actress, Mia, who's lonely and desperate to fit in, while Gosling will star as charismatic jazz pianist Sebastian.

The film is from "Whiplash" writer and director Damien Chazelle. Chazelle wrote "La La Land" before his Oscar-nominated drama "Whiplash". It is described as an old fashioned musical set in contemporary Los Angeles about a love story between a jazz pianist and an aspiring actress. When Chazelle was asked about the project, he said, "It's a contemporary love story. It's about two dreamers in Los Angeles who are trying to make it. Their dreams bring them together but also end up pulling them apart. It's about how you kind of balance life and art and your dream life with reality, which to me is what musicals are all about."

"La La Land" was initially planned to star Miles Teller and Emma Watson before the duo departed for other projects. Teller is reportedly making a deal to star in "Home Is Burning, while Watson will star as Belle in "Beauty and the Beast (2017)".

Game of Thrones sets new ratings record for Sky Atlantic

The season five premiere of Game of Thrones has set a new ratings record for Sky Atlantic, with 1.57 million viewers - a 6.7% share of the audience.
Monday night's opener was just behind Channel 4 and beat terrestrial channels BBC Two and Channel 5 in the ratings.
BBC Two's Inside Harley Street drew 1.3 million (5.8%) while Gotham attracted 800,000 (3.4%) to Channel 5.
The eagerly-awaited return of HBO fantasy drama Game of Thrones was up 29% on last year's season four launch.
That 2014 episode was seen by 1.2 million viewers, across both an overnight simulcast with the US and a 21:00 BST repeat, indicating how the once cult show has increased in popularity to become a mainstream hit.
The season five premiere delivered Sky Atlantic's best overnight audience figures to date, just behind Channel 4's Skint, which was seen by 1.6 million people - a 6.9% of the audience.
Overnight figures show ITV drama Code of a Killer was Monday night's most-watched programme in the 21:00 to 22:00 BST timeslot, securing 4.5 million viewers and a 21% audience share, while BBC One's Masterchef was seen by 4.3 million (18.4%).

Real Madrid favourites to win this season's Champions League trophy- study

Real Madrid are the most likely to win this season's Champions League trophy, according to a study by the CIES Football Observatory.
The study looked at three particular performance indicators -- Experience; Squad Stability and Transfer Policy -- before comparing with those of the last five winners: Inter Milan (2010); Barcelona (2011); Chelsea (2012); Bayern (2013); Real Madrid (2014).
In the Experience category, the last five previous winners gathered players with a total experience of 865 matches in the competition. This season, only three out of the eight teams that qualified for the quarterfinals in the 2014-15 edition have squads with such experience: Bayern Munich (932), Real Madrid (911) and Barcelona (864), with PSG the next at 569.
Madrid (312) and Barcelona (311) also score highly when the number of international players who have played for their countries are taken into consideration, with Bayern's 244 games coming some way off the previous five winners' score of 293.
In Squad Stability, the last five Champions League winners had players who were present in the first team squad for 3.5 years on average. Again, only Barcelona (4.00) and Real Madrid (3.83) came in over the average, while while Bayern (3.41) and Juventus (3.15) both came close.
To measure the level of cohesion, the study found that, on average, the last five Champions League winners had to incorporate an average of 2.6 new players. The fact that Madrid scored (2.08) highlights more stability than FC Porto who finished top in this category with 4.89 new players.
Finally, the ability of clubs to assemble experienced and stable squads also depends on financial clout. Only three of the teams qualified for the quarterfinals -- Real Madrid (€590 million), PSG (€443m) and Barcelona (€336m) -- have invested more than the €307m average transfer expenditure of the last five winners.
Clearly, the success of clubs like Dortmund who spent €56m and reached the final in 2012-13 means that there are exceptions, but money talks and of the three categories investigated by the study, Real Madrid come out on top to defend their title.

Hillary Clinton set to announce her Presidential ambition on Sunday

Hillary Clinton is jumping back in the ring. The former secretary of state will formally announce her 2016 bid Sunday, according to the Guardian. The news that Clinton would announce this weekend was first reported by Business Insider.
Clinton will make it official through a message on social media, then with an email to supporters and a video on her website, according to the Guardian. She will then travel to Iowa and New Hampshire, CNN reported Friday morning. The announcement comes a little more than a week after Politico revealed Clinton's staff would be headquartered in Brooklyn, New York.
In 2007, Clinton declared on a Sunday, writing on her website, "I'm in and I'm in to win." This second effort at fulfilling that original promise caps off years of speculation, initially over whether she would try it at all. That was decided months ago, but questions about everything from who she would hire to run the coming campaign — it will be 35-year-old Robby Mook — to her plans for the "Ready for Hillary" crew, have persisted. Clinton is expected to integrate a number of those true believers into a larger organization including President Barack Obama's top campaign pollster, Joel Benenson, and a slew of recently hired political operatives.
Unbeatable? Clinton enters the Democratic field as an overwhelming favorite. A Quinnipiac poll released Wednesday focused strictly on how she would fare in general election contests against a series of early Republican frontrunners, essentially ignoring the possibility that Clinton could lose the nominating contest. (The survey found Clinton losing support in battleground states like Florida and Colorado.)

Big Sean's Threatening tweet to Justin Bieber isn't him

The rumored feud between Big Sean and Justin Bieber is debunked after it is confirmed that the tweet for Bieber which was supposedly from Sean is fake. Sean's rep tells TMZ that the screen capture of Sean's tweet about Bieber which went viral in the internet is not original. "This kid is about to learn not to touch my girl like that. Beliebe that," the fake tweet read.

The fake tweet was created reportedly because Bieber put his arms around Ariana Grande's hip during his surprise performance at Grande's show in Los Angeles, on April 8. A tweet posted on Sean's account, "So many times in my life I wish I could of been at 2 places at once," sounds like it is for Bieber too. Although the tweet was originally written by Sean, a source close to Sean confirms that the tweet has nothing to do with the "As Long As You Love Me" singer. The tweet is actually for Sean's family and friends because he misses them while on the road.

Head Transplant: terminally ill man set to undergo the world's first full head transplant

Valery Spiridonov is set to become the first person to undergo a head transplant and hopes it could be as soon as next year.
He is ready to put his trust in controversial surgeon Dr Sergio Canavero who claims he can cut off his head and attach it to a healthy body.
Mr Spiridonov, 30, a computer scientist from Russia, said: 'My decision is final and I do not plan to change my mind.'
As a lifelong sufferer of the rare genetic Werdnig-Hoffman muscle wasting disease, he says he wants the chance of a new body before he dies.
'Am I afraid? Yes, of course I am. But it is not just very scary, but also very interesting,' said Mr Spiridonov from his home in Vladimir, a city 120 miles east of Moscow.
'But you have to understand that I don't really have many choices', he said. 'If I don't try this chance my fate will be very sad. With every year my state is getting worse.'
Dr Canavero and Mr Spiridonov have talked via Skype though they have not met yet and the doctor has not reviewed his medical records.
The Italian told CNN he has received many email and letters from people seeking the procedure but he insists the first patients will be people suffering from a muscle wasting disease.
Dr Canavero has named the procedure HEAVEN, which is an acronym for head anastomosis venture. Anastomosis involves the surgical connecting of two parts.
He insists all the necessary techniques already exist to transplant a head onto a donor body.
The first monkey head transplant was performed 45 years ago and a basic operation on a mouse was carried out in China recently.
But critics say Dr Canavero's plans are 'pure fantasy'. The Italian has been compared to the fictional gothic-horror character Dr Frankenstein.
And Arthur Caplan, the director of medical ethics at New York University's Langone Medical Centre, has described Dr Canavero as 'nuts'.
Dr Hunt Batjer, president elect of the American Association for Neurological Surgeons, told CNN: 'I would not wish this on anyone. I would not allow anyone to do it to me as there are a lot of things worse than death.'
The cost of the 36-hour operation, which could only be performed in the one of the world's most advanced operating theatres, has been estimated at £7.5million.
The new body would come from a transplant donor who is brain dead but otherwise healthy.
Both donor and patient would have their head severed from their spinal cord at the same time, using an ultra-sharp blade to give a clean cut.
The patient's head would then be placed onto the donor's body and attached using what Canavero calls his 'magic ingredient' - a glue-like substance called polyethylene glycol - to fuse the two ends of the spinal cord together.
The muscles and blood supply would be stitched up, before the patient is put into a coma for four weeks to stop them from moving while the head and body heal together.
When they wake the patient should be able to move, feel their face and even speak with the same voice. Powerful immunosuppressant drugs should stop the new body from being rejected.
Critics say Dr Canavero has simplified the difficulties involved in reattaching a spinal cord.
The Italian doctor has also so far failed to secure funding for the staff of 150 doctors and nurses he believes are required to complete the procedure.
However, the Italian is confident he can successfully transplant a head on to another body.
And if successful, his pioneering procedure could give new hope to thousands of paralysed and disabled people.

Revealed secrets in Game of Throne

Actress Emilia Clarke is revealing the secrets of the hit fantasy show.
Yes, of course, the dragons that are the ‘babies’ of her character are not real. But neither, it turns out, is her hair.
‘This is all wig,’ she says with a grin, touching the silver-blonde mane that flows with queen-like elegance from her head.
‘There’s nothing real here. It takes two-and-a-half hours every day.’
The painstaking process of transforming the dark-haired 28-year-old Londoner into Daenerys Targaryen – aka Khaleesi of the Great Grass Sea – is tackled with the kind of attention to detail that is typical of the HBO drama.
‘They braid my hair so it’s like cornrows, then they tie and pin that, then glue a bald cap, then paint the bald cap, then they glue the wig on and pin it and cut it to size, then dress it.’
Clarke is one of the breakout stars of Game Of Thrones.
Hollywood sources suggest that, alongside other core members of the cast, she’ll be earning over $7 million per series by the time production begins on the seventh season next autumn.
She was nominated for a 2013 Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series, played Jude Law’s daughter in Dom Hemingway (2013) and starred as Holly Golightly on Broadway in Breakfast At Tiffany’s.
As a mark of just how big a deal she now is on the back of Game Of Thrones, she was also offered the saucy female lead in Fifty Shades Of Grey – a part she declined with ‘no regrets’, saying that she had ‘done nudity before and was concerned with being labelled for doing it again’.
In the show’s first series Clarke was notoriously filmed naked in many of her key scenes although by series four she had resorted to wearing clothes – perhaps more befitting her regal position.
Game Of Thrones has never stinted on sex scenes, as Clarke acknowledges: ‘We’ve been able to take it to a very real level. It was never pretending to be a show for kids! It’s gritty in a good, realistic way.’
And, as she jokes, ‘There are other women who remove items of clothing on Game Of Thrones, so they’ve got my nipple count down now.’
That said, she admits that when she started filming the show in 2010 some of the scenes were shocking, including an initiation ritual in which she ate a horse’s heart.
‘It tasted like congealed jam, with a hint of bleach. I did the occasional double-take during season one when I saw the script but now, less so.
As for the three dragons, they’ve grown in size in tandem with the exploding popularity of the show.
In season two, the scaly creatures were cute and pet-sized, burping the occasional puff of smoke.
They were a good fit, in a way, for the dainty, 5ft 2in actress. To film the scenes, the show’s ‘Mother of Dragons’ recalls how the special-effects team would give her full-size replica models.
'Drogon would sit on my shoulder, Rhaegal in my arms, Viserion would be around somewhere.
'They’d attach them, so we could do a camera rehearsal and I would know the size, then they’d take them away and there’s genuinely nothing there apart from marker dots.’
‘Daenerys is a really good vehicle for reaching out to the women as well... You’re looking at a world that is incredibly male-orientated. And you’re seeing a more archaic view of the male/female divide than you do now.
'It takes ten times the guts to be a woman there than in modern-day society because you’re up against so much more.
'With Game Of Thrones, the women are more interesting than the guy characters. I would say that, though!’
So, season five is almost upon us. Come the fateful battle between the warring ‘houses’, will Daenerys triumph? Will she, finally, take her seat on the Iron Throne?
‘I’m rooting for Dany the whole way!’ Clarke laughs.
‘I mean, she has dragons! How is somebody going to come up against that? Seriously? They can’t.’

Cristiano Ronaldo is a 'phenomenon'- Karim Benzema

Karim Benzema hailed teammate Cristiano Ronaldo as a "phenomenon'' after the Portuguese struck five goals in Real Madrid's 9-1 mauling of Granada.
It was the first time in his career that Ronaldo has scored five goals in a single match and saw him become only the third player to reach the 300-goal mark for Madrid, a tally achieved in only 287 appearances.
On Sunday, Benzema said on his club's website: "Cristiano is a phenomenon, he is always looking for goals and ways to help the team. He deserves everything he has achieved.''
Benzema also scored twice after Gareth Bale had opening the scoring as Madrid's much-vaunted 'BBC' strikeforce combined to score eight of their side's nine goals, with the other coming from a Diego Mainz own goal.
The Frenchman added: "Him (Ronaldo), Bale and me, we're in good form, like always. We're helping the team and sometimes we score and other times we don't, but we're in good shape to continue like that until the end of the season.''
Ronaldo, meanwhile, was quick to highlight the role his teammates played in his five-goal haul as he inched closer to becoming the club's all-time record scorer.
Raul currently leads the way with 323 goals from 741 appearances while Alfredo di Stefano is second with 308 goals from 396 matches.
Ronaldo wrote on Twitter: "Happy to have scored 5 goals with this excelent team work. Thank you for all your support.''

Desperate Jose Mourinho: don't care if we win the Premier League title at home, away or even in the hotel

Jose Mourinho has declared that he doesn't care where Chelsea win the Premier League, so long as they end up claiming the title.
The Blues lead the table by six points, with a game in hand, and face Stoke City at home on Saturday in the first of their final nine games of the season.
'I dont care if it is in the hotel or away or at home, I just want to win it,' said Mourinho, as Chelsea trained at Cobham on Friday.
'In any occasion I think the club who wins it gets the trophy in our last match at home, and our last game of the season is at home (to Sunderland).
'So if we win the title we get the trophy at our house. But I don't care, even if somebody loses the trophy and we don't get it I am happy with that. I just want to win it.'

Am i seeing well? Incredible body painter blends her subjects into the landscapes around them

Natalie Fletcher's '100 Bodies Across America' project sees painted individuals blended into the likes of tourist hotspots, forests and ruins.
For each work Natalie travels to a certain spot in the country before selecting volunteers - not models - who she then paints.
So far Natalie, 29, has created works in front of the likes of the Welcome to Las Vegas sign and Superstition Mountains in Arizona.
Each work takes here between 45 minutes and three hours to complete, with her subjects wearing only underwear whilst being painted.
Creative Natalie, from Bend in Oregon, USA, hopes to complete the entire series by September this year.
She said: 'I have been preparing for this for three years - it's my dream project. I've been on the road for so long now I no longer know the days of the week.
'The people I have met, painted and just hung out with have been incredible. I want to put out a positive message of 'love your body' - it's the only one you are going to get.
'That is why I make people on art: each canvas is unique and beautiful.'
Natalie began her project in March and plans to paint two people in each state that she visits.
On her website the artist encourages those that want to be painted to get in touch with their ideas.

Man City stay won't damage my Chelsea legacy- Frank Lampard

Frank Lampard insists his surprising decision to sign for Manchester City after he ended his long spell at Chelsea last summer has not caused lasting damage to his legacy with the Stamford Bridge club.
Some Chelsea fans were disappointed by Lampard's move to join title rivals City for a season after he initially decided to join MLS side New York City, yet the 36-year-old midfielder is not concerned that his spell in Manchester will have tarnished his status as a Blues legend.
"I had 13 years at Chelsea and I will always be a Chelsea boy because I played there and have so many memories," Lampard said on an appearance on a Channel 4 chat show to be broadcast on Friday.
"They decided I was moving on and at 35 you are not going to fight that. If they want you to move on you move on. Then Manchester City came in for me. it was too good to turn down.
"At 36, not many people get asked to play for the champions of England at the time for five months. I have got such a great relationship with the Chelsea fans. It hasn't broken it.
"I still have my main house in Chelsea and I go back to London a lot, I hope I won't ever lose that, I don't think I will."
Lampard also confirmed he is still a huge admirer of Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho, even though the Portuguese tactician was believed to be part of the decision making process that saw the midfielder's 13-year stay at Stamford Bridge end last summer.
"He is brilliant. If you wanted to bottle a manager and get all the good bits in it, he has got them," Lampard said.
"I say that because he helped me in my career a huge amount. When he came I didn't have that self-confidence, I was 25, and he brought that out of me. And he does that with all the players he works with.
"He is very good at gauging a player and he knows if you need a [lecture] he will give it to you individually or as a team on a day but if you need a little bit of love and niceness he does that as well."
