Lady Gaga has since tweeted “Where is the face palm emoji when u need it,” which could indicate that Instagramming the picture was, indeed, an accident. The photo remains up on her Instagram account.

Louis Van Gaal yet to decide United Captain

Louis van Gaal insisted he will take his time before naming his captain at Manchester United and promised to give all the players he inherited a chance to prove their worth to him in the coming weeks.

Speaking to the media for the first time as United boss, Van Gaal confirmed that Ander Herrera and Luke Shaw, the club's first two summer signings, were already on the United wanted list before he accepted the challenge of taking over as manager.

The former Netherlands manager appears determined to allow the rest of the squad time to prove they can embrace his ideas he will bring to the job before making any additions to his lineup.

"First I want to see the players performing to my philosophy," he said when asked about the possibility of fresh signings. "The owners and the CEO have a lot of confidence in me and because of that, they have come to me.

"I explained my philosophy and they were excited. We have to wait and see if I can fulfill the expectations of these people and also the fans. When you see my career, you can see what I have won. The future shall show if I can do that again."

Van Gaal turned in a typically polished performance in front of a packed news conference, as he was asked whether he had come to any conclusions on who would replace the departed Nemanja Vidic as United captain.

"All the players are a possible candidate," he said when pondering who would claim the United armband. "I have to get to know them. I use four or five or six weeks. For me, the captain's role is very important and therefore I need time.

"Sometimes I didn't have the time and then you make quick decisions, but quick decisions are not always good, so I use my time."

Van Gaal was then asked what excited him about the task he was taking on as United boss and  seemed to struggle to sum up what the United job meant to him.

"It's difficult to describe," he added. "I am now two days here. I have met a lot of people. When you see the kind of people who are loving the club, it is a big family. They expect a lot of me, they are very excited to meet me.

"Can I fulfill that expectation? I think I can do, but because of the greatness of this club, it is much more difficult than at another club.

"This club is also guided in a commercial way and we have to fulfill that also. That is not always possible to fulfill the commercial expectations and the football expectations. That is my big challenge, I think."

Arsenal have signed Mathieu Debuchy of Newcastle United

Debuchy, 28, arrives at Emirates Stadium as a direct replacement for Bacary Sagna, who joined Manchester City on a free transfer last month. 

The right-back is believed to have cost the Gunners around 12 million pounds and he becomes the club's second signing of the summer following the arrival of Alexis Sanchez from Barcelona last week. 

Debuchy, who played for France at the recent World Cup in Brazil, impressed in his 18 months at Newcastle after signing from Lille last January. 

He told Arsenal's official website: "I'm very proud to be joining a great club like Arsenal and to wear its colours, it's one of the biggest clubs in the whole world.

"I'm looking forward to working with Arsene Wenger and to helping the team build on last season's FA Cup success. Playing again in the Champions League is a big excitement for me and I will do my best to help Arsenal compete for trophies.''

Manager Wenger added: "We are delighted to welcome Mathieu Debuchy to Arsenal Football Club. He has shown he can perform at the highest level with his club sides and also for France.

"He is a quality defender who has good Premier League experience and I'm confident he will fit in very well with us."

The Crashed Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17A: The Final Facebook Post of One of the Passengers On Board

A Dutch man who appears to have been a passenger on the doomed Malaysia Airlines flight on Thursday posted a photo of the plane with an eerie message before boarding the ill-fated Boeing 777.

Translated from Dutch to English, the caption reads: “In case it goes missing, here is what it looks like.”

Over 150 people have since commented on the Facebook post, which surfaced on Reddit. Many offer condolences.

The loss of MH-17 is the second disaster for Malaysia Airlines this year, following the mysterious loss of flight MH-370 in March, which disappeared with 239 passengers and crew on board on its way from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing.

The downing of Malaysian Airlines Flight MH-17 also still remains a mystery. 

Locals on the ground in Ukraine said they heard two loud bangs before seeing flaming wreckage fall from the sky. A U.S. official has confirmed that the plane was shot down by at least one surface-to-air missile. Vice President Joe Biden said: "Not an accident. Blown out of the sky." It remains unclear where or by who the missile was fired. 

The dead total 298 people, a number scaled up to account for three infants not on the original flight records. 

At least 154 people on the flight were Dutch. In Amsterdam, an audible gasp went up at the news conference Thursday night at Schiphol airport when it was announced that so many of the dead were from the Netherlands.

There were 27 Australians on board, 23 Malaysians, including all 15 crew, and 11 Indonesians. Six passengers from the United Kingdom, four from Germany, four Belgians, three from the Philippines and one Canadian. There are still 47 dead whose nationalities haven't yet been confirmed — some of which may be Americans. A large group of the passengers  were heading to Melbourne for a major AIDS conference, reports say.

News: A Malaysian Airliner With 295 Passengers crashed near Russia/Ukrainian Border

A Malaysian Boeing 777 airliner with 295 passengers on board has crashed into  the border between Russia and Ukraine. Several reports indicated that the aircraft which was flying from Amsterdam’s Schipol airport to Kuala Lumpur was shot down by Russian forces.
There are no independent confirmation of the allegations.
The crash comes just months after Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 disappeared in March.

Ozil donate his world cup bonus to sick Brazil Children

Mesut Özil, the midfielder for Germany's World Cup-winning team, just set an example that all stars need to see.

After Germany won the final, each player received a bonus of more than $400,000. (Spain, for instance, had proposed a $980,000 winning bonus, to great outcry.) Instead of keeping his portion, however, Özil donated it all to support the surgeries of sick Brazilian children. 

Prior to the World Cup he gave money to support 11 children, but he just upped the number to 23 to mark the number of players on Germany's team. Though there were reports that Özil had also donated his winnings to the children of Gaza, his representative later said this wasn't true.

His initiative is in partnership with Big Shoe, a German charity that uses FIFA as a platform to aid sick children. "This is my personal thank-you for the hospitality of the people of Brazil," he wrote on his Facebook page.

Big Shoe, for which Özil is an ambassador, has been working with the World Cup since 2006, with no plans to stop.

A German designers create life-like body parts from silicone

At first glance, these pictures appear to show a normal hand.
But a closer inspection reveals a clever prosthetic in the place of the thumb.
The silicone digit is the work of a German company, who specialise in individually-tailored prosthetics to meet the unique needs of people who lose fingers, hands, toes, feet or legs.

The work is the brainchild of designers Alex Stamos and Christoph Braun, of Stamos and Braun Prosthesenwerk.

Mr Braun said the ethos behind their designs is creating silicone prosthetic works of art.
He said his partner started working with silicone 14 years ago, while he joined five years ago.
Mr Braun, who has 18 years experience creating traditional prosthetics, told MailOnline: 'Individuality comes first. For every person and his or her needs are unique, and so are the restorations.
'Here each restoration is a small work of art.
'Alex does more of the individual silicone work while I build the prosthetic under the glove.

'We started our own business six months ago in Dresden, Germany with our special image and special prosthetics.
'We thought we need to make something special. We like to show people that a prosthetic doesn't need to look old and ugly.
'We like to give a good feeling to the patients. It is bad enough that they have lost something.
'So if we are able to make them happy with something cool, it feels good to everybody.'

He said each prosthetic is individually designed and tailored to ensure the right skin colour is match and the prosthetic is as comfortable as possible.
As a result the time it takes to create each prosthetic varies, case by case.
'If we only have a little thumb we can make it in one to two days,' he told MailOnline.
'But if we make an individual silicone cover for the whole arm or leg it will take us up to one week.
'And it also depends on the stump situation, sensitivity, the healing process and the wishes of the patient.'
He said it is the finer details that make the difference, with finger and toenails crafted from acrylic, the same material used in beauty salons create fake nail extensions.
Mr Braun admitted while the prosthetics they create are more realistic, they do not function as well as those with built-in bionics.
But he said they allow people to live their day-to-day lives normally, and even allow musicians to continue playing their instruments.
The prosthetics range in cost from £1,460 to £5,000 depending on the type of prosthetic and the time it takes to craft the false limb.

2014-15 Season: Mourinho's Opportunity to prove himself

After a slew of offseason moves, the pressure is on Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho to deliver a title in 2014-15.
Given Roman Abramovich's historical impatience and the fact he has already granted Mourinho a season's grace without a trophy, the logical answer would suggest he would be relieved of his duties. Whether he should, though, will reside in the context of any perceived failure.
Should Chelsea experience the type of season that Manchester United did last campaign, then there is absolutely no chance of him being retained. Regression or even a lack of progression would be a huge concern and it would suggest that his magic had waned, at least in regard to Chelsea. However, were Mourinho to be pipped to the title by a narrow margin while claiming some silverware in the process then he will have earned another shot at it as long as the football on display was sufficiently entertaining. Plus, if he manages to win the Champions League, any failings domestically would be rendered virtually obsolete.

126 years old. That's how old Brazilian man Jose Aguinelo dos Santos is, according to a birth certificate showing he was born on July 7, 1888, around 23 years after the American Civil War ended and two months after slavery was outlawed in Brazil.
Dos Santos claims to have smoked a pack of cigarrettes a day for the last 50 years. What's more, dos Santos is still totally lucid, has healthy levels of cholesterol and maintains regular blood pressure. He also does not suffer from diabetes, which is common among the very elderly. According to his caretakers, he even sings.

His story: The man, who goes by the moniker Ze, was allegedly born in a slave compound in Pedra Branca in Brazil's northeastern state of Ceara. His family continued to live there after the slaves were granted their freedom and he later worked for a coffee plantation in Bauru, located in the state of São Paulo. Now, dos Santos lives in an old person's home there named Vila Vicentina.
Is he really that old? Interest in dos Santos has grown since the previous record-holder for longevity, 111-year-old New York man Alexander Imich, died on June 8. No one but a judge in 2001, who interviewed the man to confirm his claims, has certified his age. His nursing home is currently trying to verify independently that he was born in 1888 by carbon dating him, making him somewhat of a living fossil.

A photo of Bobbi Kristina Brown doing drugs appeared on her Instagram account, but the daughter of Bobby Brown and the late singer Whitney Houston denied posting it. The 21-year-old took to her Twitter account on Tuesday, July 15 and wrote, "I've never posted any photo of me doing anything ! This is someone trying to tarnish and make a horrible name for MYSELf. People are insane."

The said image showed a teenager resembling Bobbi smoking from what appeared to be a bong. The picture was accompanied with a long, disturbing message about pain, numbness, and drug use.

The message read, "This picture may be inappropriate but I want to make a connection with you all. Don't worry this picture isn't recent just hear me out. Do you know what I feel? I feel strange I can't feel any pain anymore. I don't take any drugs as of recently. Things just happened. But then there is some situation that force me to do things and the impact I'll feel pain. I did and I do. I was hurt."

The message continued, "People kinda expect more from me. But I can't. I have lost my sense. It just happened. Then here we go again I'm in the same pain. I'm hurt. I'm trying to. I really do. But I know that I'm hurt and in pain but I can feel it but I don't know what it is."

"What do I really do? God, Help me ignore and rebuke what these demons are saying, in Jesus Name. Amen," the caption concluded.

Bobbi has not addressed how the photo and the lengthy explanatory message appeared on her account. On July 11, she tweeted, "#Numb on #AutoPilot kxo," suggesting that she might be going through some issues.

Bobbi's not usually the one to hold back on social media. She recently lashed out at director Angela Bassett on Twitter, expressing her disappointment that the director did not cast her in a biopic about Houston. She wrote on June 29, "When I win my first Grammy or Oscar, *Shrugs* hmm whichever comes 1st, I'll be sure 2shout URname out b*tch! Hah UrTestResults = Male. Lmao."

Rihanna Deletes a Tweet she made on '#FreePalestine' in order not to take side

Rihanna took side in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict by tweeting "#FreePalestine" on July 15. The tweet was posted shortly after the cease fire between Hamas and Israel fell apart and immediately was commented by her fans asking if she supported Hamas. 8 minutes later, the message was gone from her Twitter feed. It had received 4,781 favorites and 6,848 retweets before disappearing.

A source close to the singer told TMZ that the singer never intended to post that tweet and initially she wasn't even aware of the tweet. "She deleted it because it was never meant to be tweeted," the source said, "She didn't even realize it was a tweet until she started hearing from her fans."

According to the same source, Rihanna was reading an online article about the raging conflict in the Middle East. The tweet was automatically generated when she clicked the story link. The source also said that the 26-year-old singer's neither pro-Israel or pro-Palestine, saying, "She is pro-peace. She doesn't want innocent people dying."

Later, Rihanna followed it up with a message calling for peace and an end to the conflict. She tweeted an image of an Israeli and a Palestinian boy with their arms around each other. The singer captioned it with, "Let's pray for peace and a swift end to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict! Is there any hope?"

In October 2013, the singer sparked a controversy during her concert in Tel Aviv, Israel. Some people reported that Rihanna changed her song's lyrics from "All I see is dollar signs" into "All I see is Palestine" when performing "Pour It Up". Turned out, the singer was just misheard.

Doctors weren't able to reattach the penis, he told E!.

He said he had been seeing a psychologist after he was discharged but that he has been deemed okay. He said he was thankful to God when he awoke in the hospital still alive.

"I didn't want to kill myself," Johnson said. "That was just my response to the demons. They were doing their best to get to me, but being alive solidified my thoughts. ...I'm alive, penis or no penis."

Justin Bieber to Attend Another Deposition in Assault Case

Justin Bieber reportedly is ordered to attend another deposition following his first session in March. According to TMZ, the Canadian performer was ordered to attend the deposition, which was conducted in connection to an alleged assault to a paparazzo, after he dodged some questions back then.

Bieber reportedly will answer some questions from the same lawyer who grilled him in March. The second session is also likely to be videotaped, the site reports.

Back then, Bieber refused to say anything about his relationship with on-and-off girlfriend Selena Gomez. When asked if he was seeing Gomez, Bieber was seen shouting repeatedly, "Don't ask me about her again," and left the room.

The deposition stemmed from an alleged incident with a photographer named Jeffrey Binion as the pop star was leaving a studio in June 2013. Binion, who sued Bieber, said that one of his bodyguards chocked him and took his equipment. According to the paparazzo, Bieber ordered his bodyguard to take Binion's memory card. Gomez was with Bieber back then.

The Shirt is blue: As Chelsea complete Diego Costa deal

Chelsea have confirmed that Diego Costa has completed his transfer from Atletico Madrid to Stamford Bridge.

Costa has signed a five-year contract with the Blues, after an agreement between Atletico and Chelsea was confirmed earlier this month.
It is reported the Premier League club met the Spain international's buy-out clause which is said to be worth 32 million pounds.

Wilshere’s representatives had originally claimed the midfielder was dared to hold the cigarette as a joke.

The Pope on Sexual Abuse in the Catholic Church

1 in 50. That's how many Catholic clergymen are likely pedophiles, according to a new admission from Pope Francis.
"Among the 2% who are paedophiles are priests, bishops and cardinals. Others, more numerous, know but keep quiet. They punish without giving the reason," Francis told Italy's La Repubblica in an interview published Sunday. "I find this state of affairs intolerable."
Out of an estimated global total of 414,000 priests, Francis has conceded that about 8,000 have unnatural attractions to children.
Francis also took the unprecedented step of hinting that the Catholic Church may eventually reconsider requiring priests to take a vow of celibacy, noting that men of the cloth were able to marry for 900 years after the death of Jesus Christ and that some Eastern churches under Vatican tutelage allow the practice.
Is this really so stunning? Sexual abuse by Catholic priests affects parishes all over the world. The pontiff's estimate is still lower than a previous John Jay College of Criminal Justice study, which analyzed "plausible" reports from 1950-1992 and arrived at a rate of 4%. Even that study, though, might have significantly underestimated the problem. Ernie Allen, president of the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, says that a conservative estimate is that 1 in 10 males in the general population have committed sexual abuse.
Would ending celibacy fix anything? It's not clear. The Economist noted in 2010 that no one has shown a statistical correlation between celibacy and abuse. Instead, it suggested a major contributing factor was that church leadership "saw paedophilia not as a crime with victims but as a sin that endangered the perpetrator's soul: along the lines of alcoholism, or pilfering church funds." The director of Johns Hopkins' Sexual Behavior Consultation Unit, Fred Berlin, points out that other organizations like the Boy Scouts of America "have had comparable problems."
So what now? Also unclear. Vatican spokesmen are already trying to take back the interview, indicating that there's still an unhealthy apprehension within the Church to tackle the problem of paedophilia. Sigh.

Scolari with staff resign

Luiz Felipe Scolari has resigned as manager of Brazil, the national football federation announced on Monday.
The 65-year-old stood down as the World Cup hosts could only finish fourth, having been thrashed in their semi-final 7-1 by Germany, who went on to lift the trophy in Rio with victory over Argentina, and then beaten 3-0 by Holland on Saturday.
The decision was formally announced on the Brazilian Football Confederation website following a meeting between Scolari and president Jose Maria Marin, who is scheduled to step down next year in favour of Marco Polo Del Nero.
Only last week Del Nero had given Scolari, who guided Brazil to their fifth World Cup success in 2002, his full backing following the humiliating defeat in Belo Horizonte, which the one-time Chelsea boss described as the "worst day" of his life.
However, it now appears all parties have agreed a fresh approach is needed to rebuild Brazilian football, with Scolari's current contract, which expired at the end of the World Cup, not to be renewed.
A statement from the CBF read: "Coach Luiz Felipe Scolari and his fellow coaching staff surrendered their positions to the board of the Brazilian Football Confederation. The resignation was accepted by president Marin, who was keen to thank all the coaches and players and, by extension, the Brazilian fans for their support throughout the World Cup campaign.
"Scolari and his entire coaching staff deserve our respect and gratitude. They were responsible for returning to the Brazilian people your love for the team, despite not having achieved our greatest goal."
The statement added that Scolari had restored pride to the Brazilian flag and that Marin would give a media conference to expand further.
The 2014 World Cup was the first time in some 39 years Brazil had tasted defeat in a competitive fixture at home, having lifted the Confederations Cup 12 months ago.
The loss of star man Neymar through a back injury in the quarterfinal win over Colombia proved key, as Brazil were unable to lift themselves without their talisman, and also suspended captain Thiago Silva, as Germany raced 5-0 ahead inside 30 disastrous minutes at the Estadio Mineirao.
Scolari became the subject of the Brazil fans' frustrations during the Holland game in Brasilia, when his picture on the big screen was met by loud jeers.
Scolari, however, knows how history will now view him.
"I will be remembered as the coach to lose 7-1, but I knew that risk when I took the job," he said last week. "The person who decided the line-up, the tactics, was me. It was my choice."
Brazil, meanwhile, will take their time before appointing a permanent successor, with under-23 coach Alexandre Gallo reportedly likely to be the interim caretaker.
Among those expected to be in contention for the full-time job include former Corinthians boss Tite and Muricy Ramalho of Sao Paulo as well as former Brazil boss Vanderlei Luxemburgo.
Brazil have never appointed a foreign coach, although Spaniard Pep Guardiola was linked with the position before he took charge at Bayern Munich.

Argentina legend Diego Maradona has hit out at FIFA's decision to award the Golden Ball accolade for the best player of the World Cup to Lionel Messi.
Messi, who missed a good chance as Argentina lost 1-0 to Germany in the final, was presented with the award after the match.
The selection put him ahead of players such as Colombia's James Rodriguez, Germany's Thomas Muller and the Netherlands' Arjen Robben.
But Maradona said that despite four goals in Argentina's seven matches, Messi had not been the player of the tournament and his selection as Golden Ball winner was "a marketing plan."
"Messi? I would give him heaven if possible," the 1986 World Cup winner told pan-Latin American TV channel Telesur.
"But it's not right when someone wins something that he shouldn't have won just because of some marketing plan."
Messi said the award "means very little to me at this moment" and added: "It is a pity not to go home with the cup, but we go home with our heads high. We can return calm from this World Cup.
"It's very painful to lose the way we did, because we were near penalties.
"We had three clear chances -- mine, Gonzalo Higuain's and Rodrigo Palacio's -- but we couldn't get it. Now we have to move forward."
FIFA president Sepp Blatter said he didn't expect Messi to receive the award.
"What do you want -- shall I tell the truth or be diplomatic?" Blatter said. "I am going to say the truth, I was surprised that he was chosen and [surprised] to see him come up to get the award."

Chelsea have opened discussions about bringing Didier Drogba back to Stamford Bridge.

Jose Mourinho wants to sign the 36-year-old as a second striker and will give him coaching responsibilities to develop his role at the club.

Drogba is an iconic figure at Chelsea and Mourinho hopes his presence will give the club extra impetus ahead of the news season.

Mourinho wants an extra striker with the departure of Samuel Eto'o while Demba Ba and Romelu Lukaku are expected to leave even if only on temporary deals. Fernando Torres is keen to stay despite interest from Inter Milan.
Qatari clubs are willing to offer greater money with salaries being discussed of around £3million a season after tax but the idea of a return to Chelsea is something both parties wish to look at.
Mourinho has great affection for Drogba and knows he could have great influence on a squad that is changing this summer. He declared prior to the Champions League tie with Galatasaray in March that Drogba could return and is keen to fulfil that wish.
Drogba won three Premier League titles, four FA Cups and the Champions League while at Chelsea and Mourinho wants to use that experience to good effect with his new additions.
