Less than a week since the release of single "Come Closer", Wizkid
unleashed its accompanying music video on Thursday, April 6. The
DAPS-directed video looks simple yet authentic as the Nigerian singer
dances lightly among scantily-clad female dancers who twerk and do a
kind of African dance moves. Meanwhile, his collaborator, Drake, doesn't show up throughout the three-minute clip.
In the vibrant visuals, Wizkid promotes African culture by featuring
heritage African dance and dark-skinned beauties with African tribal
makeups. The track itself is groovy and catchy, on which Wizkid and
Drake throw subtle shade at their enemies through the lyrics.
Fans' responses, meanwhile, are mostly focused on Drake's absence in the
music video. A fan commented, "This seems rushed. Wizkid should have
waited to have Drake before releasing the video. This was a once in a
lifetime opportunity and he just made it less monumental with this
half-a**ed video smh." Another fan predicted this, writing below the
video, "I knew Drake was not gonna be there as usual lol."
"Come Closer" is the lead single off Wizzy's upcoming RCA records debut,
"Sounds From the Other Side", which is expected to be released this
year. The track also marks the rapper's third collaboration with Drake
after "Ojuelegba" remix and "One Dance"
