Near death: Massive 7kg tumour removed from woman stomach

A woman underwent a four hour operation in which doctors removed a massive tumour weighing more than a one-year-old child.
The 7kg tumour had been growing inside the 45-year-old woman's stomach for up to five months.
After a series of misdiagnoses, the woman came close to death after doctors confirmed she was days away from her life being put in serious danger.
The unnamed woman, from India's Kerela state, had been complaining of discomfort and severe abdominal pain in the months leading up to the life-saving surgery.
Her pain turned out to be a tumour growing in her stomach and weighing the same as a one-year-old baby.
Dr G Unnikrishnan, who led the team of surgeons which carried out the procedure, said: "The cyst must have been there for at least 5-6 months.
"It was massive and spread at the right side of her stomach due to which her liver and gallbladder were also not functioning properly."
He also revealed that if the woman had delayed the surgery for a few more days, her life would have been in imminent danger.
And in an incredible show of generosity, the operation in the Thiruvananthapuram city of Kerela state was conducted absolutely free of charge.
