Joe Hart believes City can go all the way and win the Champions League this season.
City are the midst of a crisis, having lost their last three games to fall off the Premier League title pace and out of the FA Cup.
Manuel Pellegrini's side face Dynamo Kiev on Wednesday in the first leg of the Champions League last 16, with Hart confident the competition can provide them with some respite from their domestic woes.
“We've got to believe that [City can win it],” he declared. “Else there is no point in turning up on Wednesday. We've got to believe that we've got what it takes.
"You know, it’s the best of the best, and if you're not at your best you'll lose, simple as that, in this competition.
"So it’s all about peaking for the game and being in the right place at the right time."
City go into the game on the back of a heavy 5-1 FA Cup defeat at Chelsea, where Pellegrini played a host of kids because of the proximity of the Kiev tie.
