Performing abortions to save a woman's life is "largely a spurious
argument" these days, presidential candidate Ben Carson said Tuesday,
but such cases should be made on an individual basis.
"We have advanced so much in medicine these days that that situation rarely occurs," the retired pediatric neurosurgeon told the "CBS This Morning" program.
But still, Carson said, he is against abortion.
"I spent my entire career as a pediatric neurosurgeon, frequently staying up all night, fighting, struggling to save the lives of little babies, even operating on babies inside the womb," Carson said. "So I don't think it should be hard for anybody to understand that I am totally opposed to killing babies."
