Bruce Jenner got involved in a deadly car accident on Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu Saturday, February 7. One person died and several others were injured, while the 65-year-old reality TV show walked away unhurt from the horrific crash.
Jenner was at the wheel of a black Escalade which towed an off-road vehicle when he rear-ended a white Lexus, causing a chain-reaction wreck. The Lexus bounced off a Prius before veering into oncoming traffic and colliding head-on with a black Hummer.
The white vehicle was destroyed in the front and back. The driver, reportedly a woman in her 70s, was killed. The Hummer was also damaged in the front. A rescue helicopter was spotted near the crash site apparently to transport one person to hospital.
Jenner took a field sobriety test and passed. He submitted a blood sample to determine whether he was under the influence of alcohol. "He is not under any investigation right now as far as driving while intoxicated," said LA County Sheriff's Sgt. Philip Brooks.
The former Olympian reportedly blamed paparazzi for the accident, claiming he was chased by a group of shutterbugs and tried to evade them before he hit the Lexus. "They were here right away," a witness told USA Today. "How could they have gotten here that fast otherwise?"
There were indeed several photographers at the crash site taking pictures of the wreckage. However, police said there was no indication that Jenner tried to escape the shutterbugs before the accident. "PCH is a straight road. There's no place to go to evade," Brooks said. "Being a celebrity, he's often followed by the paparazzi and he's aware of that. He was on his way home, and they happen to know his route."
