SAG-AFTRA announced the sad news on Tuesday, December 31, saying that the actor died of natural causes on Saturday. He was 89.

"Joe was the epitome of the actor who takes care of all the other actors while keeping one foot firmly planted on the stage or the set. He gave so much for so long it's hard to believe he's gone," the president of SAG-AFTRA Ken Howard said, as quoted by CNN.

Born in Haverhill, Massachusetts, Ruskin whose real name was Joseph Schlafman, attended the navy before starting his career as a stage actor. He took part in 25 films and 124 TV shows throughout his career. His credits included "Prizzi's Honor", "Indecent Proposal" and "Smokin' Aces".
