Eating for two: Scientists disprove myth of women over eating during pregnancy

The myth that women need to eat significantly more during pregnancy has been disproved by scientists.
Experts tested fruit flies and found pregnancy triggers hormone-driven growth of the intestines that allows the body to extract more energy from exactly the same amount of food.
This change happens straight after mating and the same “juvenile hormone” also stimulates fat storage, the Medical Research Council in London found.
Dr Joe McNamara, of the MRC, said: “This research points to a scientific explanation why eating for two during
pregnancy is not necessary, and may even be harmful. Growing evidence indicates that a mother’s diet can impact a child’s propensity to be obese in later life.
“The important next step will be to reproduce these findings in humans.”
The study, in journal eLife, may also help explain why some women struggle to lose weight after giving birth. Experts found if hormone levels fail to normalise after birth, a­ mother’s enlarged intestine might continue to absorb more calories.
The researchers believe the same ­metabolic responses seen in the fruit flies should also happen in humans.
Dr David Richmond, president of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, added: “It is only in the last 12 weeks that women need an extra 200 calories a day.”

Falling Angel: Chinese artists create a realistic fallen Angel

Last week in Beijing, artists Sun Yuan and Pen Yu unveiled their latest work they call “Angel”

The work is frighteningly realistic, and photos of the work are being shared across all social networks. The piece has been installed in China’s capital, reports the Daily Mail.

The sculpture is of a disturbingly lifelike old woman whose body is tangled due to her ‘fall from grace.’ The sculpture was created using fiberglass, stainless steel, silica gel and woven mesh. No matter how close to the sculpture you get, it appears unbelievably real from the gray hair and facial wrinkles to the fleshy wings. The sculpture looks as though it could rise from the ground at any moment.

Some of the artists other sculptures, though not as visually extreme, contain more extreme things including human fat tissue, live animals and even baby cadavers. The artist’s goals are to “challenge our perceptions of the human condition as well as death.”

According to the artists, their latest work “Angel” is intended to “highlight the tension and transition between the supernatural and the mundane. The angel, a transcendent being, has become powerless, unable to carry out God’s will, or to help those who believe in its existence.”

Khloe and Kim Kardashian were not happy with the way Caitlyn Jenner spoke about their mother Kris in her Vanity Fair interview.

During the now very famous magazine shoot Caitlyn revealed their marriage break down was more to do with the way that Kris treated her throughout their relationship and that’s what she couldn’t take anymore.

“Twenty per cent was gender and 80 per cent was the way I was treated,” the former Olympian said.

Kris meanwhile has kept a dignified silence regarding Cait’s comments and has barely said anything at all about her ex husband’s transition.

In the Vanity Fair article Kris says: “He was married to me and he wasn’t who he wanted to be so he was miserable… All I was doing was working very hard for my family so that we could all have a wonderful future, and he was p*****d off.

“At the end of my relationship with Bruce he definitely had a lot of social anxiety. That was one of the reasons we were in a struggle at the end.”

Caitlyn describes it somewhat differently explaining how the dynamic changed once Kris started paving the career path for the family.

aitlyn said: “She had her own money, she didn’t need me as much from that standpoint. The relationship was different.

“I think in a lot of ways she became less tolerant of me. Then I’d get upset and the whole relationship kind of fizzled.”

The ups and downs of Kris and Bruce was shown regularly on Keeping Up With The Kardashians, and Caitlyn believes the way she was mistreated is plain to see.

"A lot of times she wasn't very nice. People would see how I got mistreated. She controlled the money... all that kind of stuff," Jenner said.

Hollywood was mourning the death of Bobbi Kristina Brown on Sunday night, July 26. Oprah Winfrey, Ava DuVernay and Rosie O'Donnell were among some celebrities who paid tribute to Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown's daughter on social media.

Oprah wrote on Twitter, "Peace at Last! #BobbiKristina." Ava posted, "She seemed to be caught in the web of celebrity upon arrival. Twenty two years. A sad end. May the sister have peace now. #BobbiKristina." Rosie, meanwhile, shared a photo of Bobbi without any caption.

 Other celebrities like Sherri Shepherd, Tamar Braxton, Taraji P. Henson, Missy Elliott, Reggie Bush, Vivica A. Fox, La Toya Jackson, Snoop Dogg, Wendy Williams and Kylie Jenner also paid tribute to Bobbi on social media.

Whitney Houston's daughter Bobbi Kristina dies

Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown's daughter Bobbi Kristina Brown died at 22 years old, more than six months after she was found unconscious in a bathtub at her Georgia home. The Houston family announces the sad news via a statement by their representative.

"Bobbi Kristina Brown passed away July, 26 2015, surrounded by her family," the statement reads. "She is finally at peace in the arms of God. We want to again thank everyone for their tremendous amount of love and support during these last few months."

Bobbi Kristina was discovered face down in the filled tub in January. She had been receiving treatment in a medically induced coma ever since. In March, she was moved to a long-term care facility in Atlanta.

Later in June, she was moved to the Peachtree Christian Hospice in Georgia as her aunt Pat, who is married to Whitney's brother Gary Houston, said, "Despite the great medical care at numerous facilities, Bobbi Kristina Brown's condition has continued to deteriorate."

Eminem delivered a six-minute freetyle, targets Caitlyn Jenner, Miley Cyrus and more

Eminem stopped by "Sway in the Morning" on Thursday, July 23 to promote "Southpaw" and its soundtrack which he executive produced. During his visit to the show, the rapper delivered a crazy six-minute freestyle in which he name-checked a few headline-making stars including Caitlyn Jenner, Donald Trump and Miley Cyrus among others. 

"This a true statement, I see the b**ch in you Caitlyn," he rapped about the reality TV star at one point. "I keep the pistol tucked like Bruce Jenner's d**k/ No disrespect though, not at all/ No pun intended that took a lot of balls."

Of Cyrus, he said, "I'm coming through like a wrecking ball/ You would swear I think highly of Miley/ And I respect her the way I back-'Hannah'/ Excuse my French, Montana/ But I am worried about nuttin'."

Elsewhere, he attacked Bill Cosby and made some references to the veteran comedian's sexual assault case. Game of Throne Season 6: Jon Snow returns to Belfast, fuels rumors of His return

A new photo of Kit Harington just added a hint at Jon Snow's return to "Game of Thrones" season 6. The actor was spotted arriving in the Belfast airport on Monday, July 20. It's believed that he returned to Northern Ireland, the home base of the HBO series, to join the production for the upcoming season as filming is set to begin this week.

In the last few weeks, there had been reports that Harington was back to Belfast for pre-production, though there were no photographic evidence. It was reported that the 28-year-old actor refused to take photos with any fans in Belfast.

Harington, who revealed that he's contractually obligated to keep his hair long for the duration of the show, has also grown his hair back after appearing with shorter hair at the premiere of his movie "Testament of Youth" back in January.

While it's still unconfirmed if Harington's character Jon will be featured in season 6 after he was stabbed by his Brothers in the Night's Watch in the fifth season finale, Jon's brother Bran Stark is definitely back after he was absent in season 5. Isaac Hempstead Wright who plays the character confirmed it earlier this month, "I can't say a lot, but I am back this season, and it's going to get particularly interesting with Bran. He has some interesting visions.

Game of Thrones Season 6: Filming location supports fan theory of Jon Snow's return

Another evidence that Jon Snow (Kit Harington) will return to "Game of Thrones" season 6 may have just surfaced. There have been theories among fans that Jon is actually the son of Rhaegar Targaryen and Lyanna Stark (Ned's late sister) and was born in the Tower of Joy. Now, a filming location for the upcoming season may confirm it.

As fans have noticed, one of the newly announced filming locations, the Castillo de Zafra in Guadalajara, Spain, resembles the Tower of Joy from the books. In the books, the Tower of Joy was torn down long before the events of season 1. If the Castillo de Zafra indeed serves as a stand-in for the Tower of Joy, it will likely be featured in a flashback.

Adding fuel to the speculation, Watchers on the Wall recently reported that the show's casting an unnamed "legendary fighter" described as "a man in his thirties or forties who is a great swordsman and a paragon of knighthood. He carries a hugely famous sword on his back. The show is seeking a very impressive swordsman for the role- the best in Europe, for a week of filming fight scenes for a season 6 role. His ethnicity/race isn't specified, unlike many other roles."

The description reminds the book readers of Arthur Dayne a.k.a. the Sword of the Morning, who was a Kingsguard knight under the Mad King and one of Rhaegar Targaryen's closest friends. He was considered one of the greatest warriors in the Seven Kingdoms before he died at the Tower of Joy.

Should the show confirm fan theory about Jon's parents, it's believed that the show won't go this far and dig into the circumstances of his birth only to keep Jon dead. Thus, it is believed that Jon will have a presence in season 6 since he's the only major character alive who is related to an event in the Tower of Joy.

Filming for the sixth season of "Game of Thrones" is scheduled to begin this month for a 2016 premiere.

Eminem's heartfelt letter to Tupac Shakur's mother

Eminem once penned an emotional and heartfelt letter to Tupac Shakur's mother praising her son for giving him "courage to stand up" and be himself.

The undated note has been on display at the Tupac Amaru Shakur Center of the Arts, and the Lose Yourself star paid tribute to the late rapper for his influence in a message to Afeni Shakur.

He wrote: "As I have said before, you have no idea how much your son and his music has inspired, not only the 'Hip Hop" world, but, speaking for myself, has inspired my whole career.

"He was, and still is, the true definition of a "solider." When I was feeling at my worst (before fame, before Dre), I knew I could put that "Tupac" tape in, and suddenly, things weren't so bad. (sic)"

In the letter - which was originally published in 2008 book Tupac remembered - he also referenced a drawing, and thanked Afeni for "giving us his spirit".

He continued: "He gave me the courage t stand up and say "F**k the world!" "This is who I am! And if you don't like it, go f**k yourself!" Thank you for giving us his spirit, and yours! God Bless you! (sic)"

The picture of Tupac - with his signature bandanna - was also included, and addressed to the rapper's mum.

It read: "To Afeni, Your friend 4-ever! Marshall"

The first photos of "Southside with You" have arrived. The photos give a look at Parker Sawyers as Barack Obama and Tika Sumpter as Michelle Obama. Written by Richard Tanne, the movie centers on the couple's romance. 

The romantic drama takes place in summer 1989 in Chicago, where young associate Barack Obama woos lawyer Michelle Robinson. On their first date, the pair see Spike Lee's "Do the Right Thing". Their date also includes a trip to the Art Institute of Chicago and the couple's first kiss outside of an ice cream parlor.

Back in 2014, the first couple recorded a video message that played ahead of a 25th anniversary screening of "Do the Right Thing" at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. In the video, Michelle said of her husband's selection, "Directed by a guy that not that many people had heard of. He was trying to show me his sophisticated side by selecting an independent filmmaker, and it ended up being a pretty good movie - really great!"

Sumpter and Tanne produce the movie alongside Glendon Palmer and Robert Teitel with Tracey Bing as executive producer. Directed by Tanne, "Southside with You" is expected to be released in U.S. theaters in 2016.
