Free to move: As FIFA declared Suarez free to join Barca

FIFA's disciplinary chief has confirmed that Luis Suarez is free to join Barcelona while serving his ban for biting Giorgi Chiellini, but denied Liverpool had been punished unfairly.
Suarez, 27, has been banned for four months from all football, and nine Uruguay matches, for biting the Italian centre-back during their World Cup Group D meeting on June 24.
The Uruguayan FA has already submitted an appeal on the player's behalf, while Suarez has now apologised for his actions after initially telling FIFA he had lost his balance. His refusal to show any kind of remorse for his actions earned him a longer ban.
Liverpool remain in talks with Barcelona over the transfer of Suarez, and Claudio Sulser told a news conference that the player would be allowed to have a medical ahead of a transfer under the terms of his ban, which relates to all football-related activities including entering stadiums.
Sulser, the head of FIFA's disciplinary committee, said on Thursday: "The player cannot have any activity related to football, but a medical examination for a transfer, yes -- the sanction is not linked to transfer rights.''
Liverpool are reported to have taken advice over the ban, but Sulser insisted it is the actions of the player and the player alone which led to the punishment and FIFA had to act.
Asked why the committee imposed a ban that damaged Liverpool, he said: "That's your opinion. It's a sanction against the player. That is the risk if you are a player and you are sanctioned at the World Cup. I agree with you it's a problem for Liverpool, but the sanction is in the disciplinary regulations.''
Sulser added that the Suarez bite was "a very severe case'' but that the sanctions -- which also include a 66,000-pound fine -- were not to set an example, but for "justice''.
Sulser said: "This is still an ongoing case and an appeal has been filed, so I prefer not to give my opinion. When the committee was analysing this case, one thing I mentioned in my capacity as the chairman is we don't need to impose an exemplary sanction, we need to have justice and reached the sanction in a very severe case.''

 USA goalkeeper Tim Howard breaks the record for the most saves made in a single World Cup game.
The Everton shot-stopper's 16 saves against Belgium is more than any other player has made since records started being taken in 1966. Playing in perhaps his last major tournament for America at age 35, he eclipsed the 13 by Peru's Ramon Quiroga in 1978
Despite Howard's brilliant performance, America fell out of the competition Tuesday, 2-1 at the hands of Belgium in extra time. However, it could have easily gone 4-1 or 5-1 to the Red Devils if not for the in-goal heroics of U.S. keeper Tim Howard.

Mexico's Rafael Marquez made history by wearing the armband for Mexico in his fourth World Cup. It is the most World Cups at which a player has captained his squad.

Honduras- After a 3-0 defeat to France in its opener, Honduras matched the dubious mark previously set by Bolivia and Algeria for most consecutive World Cup matches without scoring at five - a streak that dated to the country's final game in 1982, included all group matches of 2010, and finally ended in a 2-1 loss to Ecuador in its follow-up to France.

Noel Valladares- It's also been a particularly popular World Cup for own goals. Noel Valladares (37 years, 43 days) of Honduras is the oldest player to score an own goal at the Cup, doing so against France,

Bosnia & Herzegovina's Sead Kolasinac scored the World Cup's fastest own goal at 2 min 10 sec. And keep on eye on the total of own goals - there have been five so far in the tournament, only one off the total record from France 1998.

 Brazil- the most successful World Cup outfit of all time, the Seleção continues to add to its impressive cadre of records. Just by appearing in the competition, Brazil has extended its record of most World Cup appearances by a team. It's the only nation to have appeared in all 20 of the tournaments.

New release date for 'Fast and Furious 7'

 "Fast and Furious 7" will hit theaters in the U.S. a week earlier. The seventh installment of the "Fast and Furious" movie franchise was originally delayed from summer this year to April 10, 2015 after Paul Walker's tragic death, but now it's slated for April 3 next year.

Production for the movie has just wrapped, and director James Wan posted on Twitter a picture of himself posing with Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. "Picture-wrap on @TheRock! One of the best peeps I've ever worked with. Laughter & professionalism! Let's do it again!" so he gushed.

Meanwhile, "Insidious Chapter 3" gets pushed back. The third entry of the Leigh Whannell horror movie series was initially set for April 3, 2015, but now has been postponed until May 29. Dermot Mulroney and Stefanie Scott are cast for the upcoming installment.

Also getting a release date is thriller "Black Sea" starring Scoot McNairy and Jude Law. It will open on January 23, 2015. Open Road Films' inspirational family flick "Little Boy" will arrive on February 27, and Ryan Reynolds-starrer "Selfless" follows on April 17.

Kaka: Brazil yet to prove to be world cup favourite

Kaka believes his fellow Brazilians can win the World Cup -- if they can get past Colombia in the quarterfinals.
The midfielder, who recently signed with new MLS team Orlando City after missing out on Brazil's World Cup squad, said in an interview on ESPN that the Selecao still have plenty to prove after sneaking past Chile on penalties in the round of 16.
"I think Brazil has played some good games but Brazil has not convinced yet with good football," Kaka said. "But Brazil has a lot of talent. Neymar is playing good.
"I think the game against Colombia will be a nice challenge for us Brazilians because Colombia is doing so great in the competition. If we win against Colombia I think Brazil can arrive in the final and win the World Cup too."
Should Brazil get past Colombia on Friday, Kaka sees the only other South American team remaining as the biggest potential threat to ruining the host country's party.
"Maybe Argentina because one final between Brazil and Argentina in Brazil would be amazing as a final, but I can't imagine Argentina beating Brazil in the final," Kaka said.
Orlando City, who will begin play in MLS in 2015, unveiled Kaka as the club's first designated player on Monday. Kaka said playing in the United States fulfills a career goal.
"I said sometimes, a few times, that one day I'd like to play in the American league, in MLS,".
"And I think this time has arrived with Orlando because I'm a friend of Flavio [Augusto da Silva], the owner.
"I think Orlando has an amazing project and I've been convinced for this project. I think we can do a lot of good things together. I think this team has good potential to [show] America how fun is soccer. For a lot of reasons I've been convinced to play for Orlando next season."
Before joining Orlando City, Kaka will play on loan with Sao Paulo, the club with whom he began his youth and professional career before being sold to AC Milan in 2003.

But New York City-based graphic designer and artist Hannah Kunkle decided to bring Kardashian's likeness into a whole new realm: religion. For the woman married to Yeezus, it sort of makes sense.
Naturally, the response to Kunkle's work has been defined by a large amount of backlash, with some religious leaders speaking out against the collection. "The Passion of Kim Kardashian," which shows the reality star as the face of humanity's greatest goddesses collaged in a series of vibrant, psychedelic effigies, is in actuality depicting an element of human fascination as old as art itself — celebrity worship.

"It's deplorable. It's sacrilegious, irrelevant, and disrespectful ... it's idol worship," Pastor Reggie Stutzman, only one of the religious leaders enraged by the collection, told the New York Daily News. Kunkle just maintains that Kardashian is "the patron saint of pop culture."

Kardashian herself has had no say in this presentation as a devi as well as a diva. The decision was all Kunkle's, and she's far from the first artist to appropriate celebrity images to deliver a message.

Other artists have been more active in drawing similarities between themselves and deities: Beyoncé's "Mine" video drew strong links between her and the Virgin Mary.The appropriation of religious, historical and mythological symbols extends back centuries: Classical poets like Edmund Spenser loved to assert the English were the next generation of the Roman Empire due to King Arthur being the descendant of Emperor Brutus. He also allegorized Queen Elizabeth as a divine, mythical faerie. Portraitists of antiquity have often sought to portray their subjects as near to divine, even when painting themselves. What Kunkle is doing is not far removed from this classic tradition, and her logic at least makes sense.

"She's crazy bodacious and has the nose job of an angel," Kunkle told VICE. "I don't know if she's omniscient, but no one can deny she's not omnipresent. Kim floats above us all, even the deniers and the haters. We have accepted her into our lives via television screens, memes and Instagram feeds.

Last-gasp: As Di Maria late goal see off Switzerland out of the world cup

Angel Di Maria scored in the 118th minute as Argentina scraped past Switzerland and booked their place in the World Cup quarterfinals.
In a first half of few chances, Josip Drmic spurned the clearest opening after he was put through by Xherdan Shaqiri only to see his attempted lob easily gathered by goalkeeper Sergio Romero.
The second half brought a marked improvement, and Switzerland goalkeeper Diego Benaglio had to make smart saves from Marcos Rojo, Gonzalo Higuain and Lionel Messi as Alejandro Sabella's side sought to seize control, but the match went to extra time.
Fatigue was evident from that point on but Benaglio continued to impress, making strong saves from Ezequiel Garay and Di Maria, until the Real Madrid man slotted home in the dying moments from Messi's assist.
Blerim Dzemaili hit the post in injury time and then diverted the ball wide when it bounced back off his leg as Argentina held on to progress.

Elton John claim Jesus Would Have Supported Gay Marriage

 Elton John said Jesus Christ was so full of compassion that He would have been a supporter of gay marriage. The singer also thought that the rules preventing gay clergy from marrying and requiring Catholic priests to be celibate were "old and stupid."

"The church hierarchy, the traditionalists, might be up in arms about it but times have changed," John told Sky News' Murnaghan programme. "If Jesus Christ was alive today, I cannot see him, as the Christian person that he was and the great person that he was, saying this could not happen."

The Rocket Man continued, "He was all about love and compassion and forgiveness and trying to bring people together and that is what the church should be about." For that, he praised Pope Francis who supported civil unions for same-sex couples and the Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby who said that same-sex marriage was "great."

"He's excited me so much by his humanity," the singer said of the Pope. "He's taken everything down to the humility of faith. He's stripped it down to the bare bones and said it's all basically about love and inclusiveness. That has to be encouraged by the Church of England as well."

John has been in civil partnership with David Furnish since December 2005 when Civil Partnership Act came into force in the U.K. They plan to marry next year in a "very quiet and very off the cuff" ceremony.

Her locks were dyed jet black (or maybe she had on a wig) and she sported a blunt fringe and piled the rest on top of her head in a large bun. She accessorised with huge cat-eye sunglasses and an even bigger pair of gold hoop earrings.

 At one point she kneeled poolside and chatted to a friend as her hunky man looked on. And there appeared to be a theme with the gang's outfits as several of her pals appeared to be sporting vintage heavy metal shirts.

Fall of Africa Lastline in Brazil: As Germany defeat a resilient Algerian side

 Germany scraped through to a World Cup quarterfinal meeting with France despite being given a real scare by Algeria on a thrilling night of football in Porto Alegre.
Andre Schurrle and Mesut Ozil scored as Germany won 2-1 after extra time, but for much of the night, it seemed Joachim Low's men were heading for what would have been the shock defeat of the tournament so far.
Algeria spotted Germany's vulnerable high-line defence from the first whistle and took advantage with a series of long-ball counter-attacks.
Germany goalkeeper Manuel Neuer played sweeper for much of the match in the Estadio Beira-Rio, racing out of his box to clear on four occasions.
Islam Slimani was a constant threat for the African nation, who looked like World Cup contenders, rather than knockout stage debutants.
Sofiane Feghouli and Faouzi Ghoulam were guilty of missing first-half chances for Algeria and Mehdi Mostefa also shot wide in extra time.
Rais M'Bolhi had a superb game in the Algeria goal, saving from Philipp Lahm, Bastian Schweinsteiger and Schurrle in normal time.
But his efforts to avenge the 1982 "Disgrace of Gijon" -- when West Germany and Austria conspired to eliminate Algeria from the World Cup -- were ultimately ended by Ozil, who swept home in the second period of extra time.
Abdelmoumene Djabou scored in the 120th minute, but Algeria could not find another as a massively relieved Germany sealed a quarter-final meeting with France in the Maracana.
Algeria's plan to hit Germany on the break was clear from the off.
Slimani sneaked in behind Per Mertesacker following a long punt up field, but luckily for the Arsenal defender, Neuer sprinted off his line and put in a superb sliding tackle well outside his area.
Feghouli then showed Jerome Boateng up, turning the former Manchester City defender in the box, but he shot wide.
Algeria thought all the early pressure had paid off when Slimani headed El Arbi Soudani's cross in. Algeria coach Vahid Halilhodzic flung his arms in the air, but the goal was ruled out for offside.
Still, Algeria continued to pile on the pressure on the counter.
Soudani played Ghoulam in behind, but he failed to test Neuer.
Once again, Algeria punted the ball long. Mertesacker failed to control the ball and Feghouli raced free only for Neuer to dash out of his box and clear.
M'Bolhi then kept Algeria in it with two saves in quick succession just before a frantic first half came to an end.
Schurrle came on for Mario Gotze at the break and made an immediate impact, latching on to Thomas Muller's pass, but his deflected shot flew just wide.
Germany were dominating possession, but they could not beat M'Bolhi, who pulled off an outstanding save to deny Lahm on the hour.
The Algerians' pace still made them the most dangerous side in the second half. Neuer had to come racing out of his area for a third time to deny Slimani with his head.
Germany had two great chances to win with 10 minutes of the 90 left, but M'Bolhi saved Muller's header and Schurrle's follow-up was blocked on the line.
Neuer's sweeping skills were called on again with two minutes to go as he denied Feghouli.
Schweinsteiger should have won the game in the final minute of normal time, but he fired a free header straight at the Algeria goalkeeper.
Moments earlier Muller fell over as part of a free-kick routine. Nothing was going right for the Germans.
That all changed less than two minutes into extra-time.
Muller pinched the ball off Algeria full-back Aissa Mandi and squared for Schurrle, who flicked the ball beyond M'Bolhi with his instep.
The Algerians tired, but they kept looking for the equaliser. Mostefa shot just wide when he should have tested Neuer.
Ozil scored in the final minute to give Germany a two-goal cushion, but Djabou then turned home Feghouli's cross to give Algeria a glimmer of hope.
There was not enough time for Algeria to find another though and Germany progressed.

During the period, the former Destiny's Child member cashed in an estimated $115 million. She gained success with her tour which raked in $2.4 million per stop, according to Pollstar. Her album "Beyonce" was also popular with its single "Drunk in Love" having sold more than 1 million copies. In addition to her music, the mother of one took part in campaigns for various companies such as H&M and Pepsi.

James, who is placed second, gained about $72 million last year with endorsing gigs for Coke and McDonald's among others. Dr. Dre, meanwhile, received a whopping $620 million in earnings last year due to Apple's purchase of Beats by Dre. Last year, Winfrey received approximately $82 million in earnings, while the host of "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" gained $70 million.

Bow of the African Giant: As Nigeria is sent packing by France out of the World Cup

France booked their place in the quarterfinals of the World Cup after a 2-0 victory over Nigeria.
Nigeria impressed during the first half and it had appeared they had taken the lead on 19 minutes when Emmanuel Emenike had the ball in the net, but the offside flag had been raised.
France, too, carried a threat, and Paul Pogba came close, smashing Mathieu Valbuena's cut-back on target, but goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama was well-placed to make the save.
As the match entered its final 20 minutes, Les Bleus began to take charge. Karim Benzema saw an effort cleared off the line before Yohan Cabaye struck the woodwork, but Pogba eventually made the breakthrough on 79 minutes after Enyeama failed to deal with a corner.
France added a second in injury time as Joseph Yobo deflected a Valbuena cross into his own net.

Arjen Robben Admit to diving in Netherlands-Mexico match

Arjen Robben has apologised for diving during the first half of Netherlands' 2-1 win against Mexico at the 2014 World Cup.
Robben was denied a penalty on two occasions before a late foul on the winger by Mexico captain Rafael Marquez saw referee Pedro Proenca point to the spot, allowing Netherlands to complete a dramatic late comeback.
After the game Robben admitted diving on one of the first two occasions, when fouls were not given, but claimed the third time was a legitimate foul and said it is a tendency he must curb.
"The one at the end was a penalty, I was fouled," he told Dutch television channel NOS.
"At the same time I have to apologise in the first half I took a dive and I really shouldn't do that.
"That was a stupid, stupid thing to do but sometimes you're expecting to be struck and then they pull their leg away at the last minute."

Mexico coach Miguel Herrera blamed Robben for his side's elimination from the tournament and questioned the appointment of a European referee for a game involving a European side.
He said: "Out of the four matches here in all of them the refereeing was disastrous.
"Robben did three dives and he should have been cautioned. You should caution a guy who is trying to cheat, and then if Robben did it again he would be sent off.
"And why did FIFA choose a referee from the same confederation as Holland instead of one from South America, Asia or Africa?
"The doubtful decisions were always against us. We have to say it in capital letters, in three matches we had horrible refereeing. The man with the whistle knocked us.
"I want the referee committee to take a look and that the referee goes home just like us."

BET Awards 2014: The Awards and violence

The 2014 BET Awards bestowed the movie accolades to "12 Years a Slave" stars Lupita Nyong'o and Chiwetel Ejiofor. The slavery movie itself was named Best Movie over "The Best Man Holiday", "Fruitvale Station", "Kevin Hart: Let Me Explain" and "Lee Daniels' The Butler".
Nyong'o portrayed Patsey in "Slave" and won an Oscar for the same role earlier this year. Sadly, the actress did not attend the event to receive her trophy. She beat out such actresses as Angela Bassett, Gabrielle Union, Kerry Washington and Oprah Winfrey.
Ejiofor played the lead male character Solomon Northup in the 2013 movie. He was nominated for an Oscar for the role but did not win it. His BET Awards victory was over such actors as Forest Whitaker, Idris Elba, Kevin Hart and Michael B. Jordan.

The 2014 BET Awards was held at the Nokia Theatre L.A. and broadcast live on Sunday, June 29 in Los Angeles. The ceremony was marred with violence when one man was shot to death and another was stabbed in two separate unofficial pre-show parties. BET has released a statement, saying the event is not affiliated with the incidents.

The awards event also gave nods to music and sports. Tennis star Serena Williams and basketball ace Kevin Durant won Subway Sportswoman of the Year and Subway Sportsman of the Year respectively.

Late comeback: As Fighting Netherlands see off Mexico with last-gasp win

Klaas-Jan Huntelaar scored an injury-time penalty to complete a dramatic comeback for Netherlands in a 2-1 win over Mexico and book their place in the quarterfinals of the 2014 World Cup.
Giovani dos Santos opened the scoring for Mexico in sweltering conditions in Fortaleza, only for Wesley Sneijder and Huntelaar to net late goals and set up a meeting with the winner of Costa Rica versus Greece.
Mexico enjoyed a bright start to the game as Miguel Layun drove a cross wide on 14 minutes, before Hector Herrera dragged an effort off target and then Dos Santos drew a save from the legs of goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen.
Robin van Persie spurned an opportunity for Netherlands in the 27th minute, slicing wide, and just before half-time Arjen Robben had a strong shout for a penalty turned down following challenges by Rafael Marquez and Hector Moreno.
Mexico took the lead three minutes into the second half when Dos Santos unleashed a left-footed shot from outside the area to flash the ball beyond the reach of Cillessen.
A combination of Guillermo Ochoa and woodwork denied Stefan de Vrij after the defender diverted goalwards from close range only to see ball pushed onto the post by the Mexico goalkeeper.
Netherlands pushed for an equaliser and their pressure told with two minutes of normal time remaining, as Sneijder thumped home from Huntelaar's headed assist.
And the comeback was complete three minutes into injury time as Huntelaar tucked in from the penalty spot after Robben was tripped by Marquez.
The victory marked the first time in World Cup knockout round history that a team trailing in the 88th minute won in regulation.

Brazil 2014 WORLD CUP: Brazil in quarter-finals after penalty shootout with Chile

Brazil advanced to the World Cup quarterfinals after prevailing 3-2 on penalties against Chile following a 1-1 draw in Belo Horizonte.
Julio Cesar saved from both Mauricio Pinilla and Alexis Sanchez either side of a Willian miss to put Brazil in charge, but Claudio Bravo blocked Hulk's effort. However, after Neymar had converted, Gonzalo Jara hit the post with the final penalty to send the hosts through.
Brazil, who had won every one of their three previous World Cup meetings with Chile, carried the greater threat in the opening stages, and they had their lead on 19 minutes: David Luiz was credited with the goal after the ball was diverted into the net following Thiago Silva's flick-on from a Neymar corner.
However, their advantage did not last long. Hulk gave away possession following a defensive throw-in, allowing Eduardo Vargas to play in Alexis Sanchez, who was allowed time to pick his spot.
It proved a frantic first half with chances at both ends, and while Brazil, and Neymar in particular, had the lion's share, they were unable to find the killer touch required to restore their advantage. Fred passed up perhaps the best chance on 40 minutes, blazing over with the goal gaping after a loose ball had fallen into his path.
Brazil thought they were back ahead nine minutes into the second half when Hulk diverted the ball home, but referee Howard Webb -- who had earlier denied Hulk a penalty -- penalised the striker for handball.
The decision appeared to affect the Selecao for a spell, but as the game approached its conclusion they were able to reassert themselves, with Claudio Bravo making a string of saves.
The match went to extra time, but the pattern changed little, with Luiz Felipe Scolari's men on the front foot for the most part but struggling to carve out clear chances.
La Roja came close to snatching it in the dying seconds of extra time when Mauricio Pinilla crashed a shot against the crossbar, but the match was decided by a shootout and the hosts made it through for their seventh successive quarterfinal.

Uruguayan President Jose Mujica was at the airport at one point, but returned home because Suarez's flight was delayed.
Because of the delay, the crowd of about 1,000 fans were moved from the airport terminal to an adjacent air force base to await his arrival.
Suarez was earlier seen with the rest of the team in Rio as they were pictured arriving at their hotel.
The Uruguayan Football Association are preparing an appeal against the severity of the sentence, which also includes a £64,000 fine. But there is no chance of Suarez appearing at Brazil 2014 again.
FIFA’s strict regulations barring him from any involvement in football mean he cannot even watch Liverpool or Uruguay in action — he is banned from football stadiums and must train alone away from Liverpool’s Melwood training ground.

Giorgio Chiellini sorry for suarez ban

Italy defender Giorgio Chiellini has said he feels for Luis Suarez after the striker was handed a nine-game and four-month ban for biting him during the Uruguay victory that knocked the Azzurri out of the World Cup.
Suarez has been banned for nine international matches -- and from all football activity for four months -- after being found guilty of biting Chiellini.
But according to the Juventus defender, world football's governing body has been too harsh on Liverpool forward Suarez.
"I don't have any feelings of joy, revenge or anger towards Suarez for an incident which happened on the field and finished there," Chiellini said on his website.
"I'm just angry and disappointed about losing the game. At the moment, my only thoughts are with Luis and his family, because they're faced with a very difficult period."
While saying FIFA was right to punish Suarez, Chiellini said he felt the punishment did not fit the crime.
"I always considered the disciplinary measures by the governing organisations to be unequivocal, but at the same time I think what they have proposed is excessive," the 29-year-old added.
"I sincerely hope that he will be permitted at least to be close to his teammates during their games, because forbidding him from doing that would be alienating him."

Bobby Womack is dead age 70

Bobby Womack, whose singing career spanned in nearly six decades, has died at the age of 70. His recording label XL Recordings confirmed the sad news on Friday, June 27. More info regarding his death is not immediately available.

Womack was born on March 4, 1944 in Cleveland, Ohio. At the age of 10, Womack started touring the gospel circuit with his family as the Womack Brothers with his father on the guitar and mother on the organ. In 1961, they joined Sam Cooke's label SAR and changed their group's name to the Valentinos.

The group disbanded after Cooke passed away in 1964. The "Across 110th Street" hitmaker later made headlines after marrying his widow Barbara Campbell only three months after Cooke's death.

Womack's career rose in the 1970s. Signing with United Artists Records, he scored some popular hits which included "That's the Way I Feel About Cha' ", "Harry Hippie" and "Nobody Wants You When You're Down and Out" among others. He also released two successful albums "Communication" in 1971 and "Understanding" the next year via the company.

During his career, Womack collaborated with various musicians such as George Benson, Sly & the Family Stone and Janis Joplin. In 2010, he worked in "Stylo" alongside Mos Def for Gorillaz's album "Plastic Beach". He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in the year before.
