Ryan Giggs: I wasn't really focused on coaching

Giggs took over at United after David Moyes was sacked with four matches of the season left, winning two, drawing one and losing one.
The Welshman is now completing his Pro Licence coaching badge as he prepares for life as Louis van Gaal's assistant, but he knows he has much to learn if he is to take the United job on a permanent basis in the future.
"When I took the job there were a lot of things that I was quite happy with, but there was the odd thing where I thought 'I'm not quite ready for this.' Well it wasn't that I wasn't ready for it, but I could do with a little bit more experience," Giggs told thefa.com.
"I have gained that experience from Sir Alex [Ferguson] but last year I was still playing so I wasn't really focused on the coaching and the other side of things.
"This year I can put everything into it and learn from someone who has managed at the top in so many other countries. It has been a good thing that I have been with Sir Alex for so long but also I am now getting to see how other people work as well. I got a taste of David Moyes and now Louis van Gaal this year."
Giggs has now hung up his boots after an illustrious career but was still playing at the time of his elevation last season -- an adjustment he struggled to deal with.
"Yeah, I mean there was just so much to do," he said. "Before training you are in at half seven and by the time half ten had come you were knackered.
"Because I was still a player I just wanted to make the players aware that I was the club manager and get that distance away from them initially to say, 'I am not joining in training, I am looking to see what you are doing.' You can't really do that if you are getting involved.
"Initially that was my feeling -- not get involved with training and see how they were all performing. The majority of the lads were all fit so I had plenty to choose from so I wanted to get a good look. If you are involved and in the middle of it you don't quite get the same look."

Ronaldo: Portugal can hold head high

Cristiano Ronaldo has lamented Portugal's failure to qualify from Group G following their elimination from the 2014 World Cup.
Portugal beat Ghana 2-1 in their final game of the tournament but goal difference counted against them following a 4-0 defeat to Germany in their opening game.
But Ronaldo, whose fitness was questioned throughout the campaign in Brazil, insists Portugal leave South America with their "heads held high".
He told a post-match news conference: "We tried to win the match, but could not finish all our opportunities.
"We were depending on the result of the German game. We deserved more and are leaving with our heads held high.
"We tried to do our best, but we couldn't do it."
Portugal coach Paulo Bento admitted his side were not good enough to progress to the round of 16 of the World Cup.
"We created a lot of opportunities and we deserved to win by a bigger margin which would have given us a chance to qualify," Bento told Portuguese newspaper Ojogo.
"Of course the balance of our World Cup is negative. We didn't achieve our first aim which was to progress to the second round of the competition. We have what we deserve.
"The two teams that have gone through have done so on merit. Now we must analyse what went wrong and congratulate Germany and the United States for progressing."
Bento did take some satisfaction from Portugal's response to their opening game nightmare against Germany.
"In the second and third game we gave a different image of what we are worth than in our first," he added. "As I said, the Germany game affected us, because we played in numerical inferiority, because it was a heavy defeat and also because a few players got injured."

Marching order: Luis Suarez Given four months ban

Luis Suarez has been banned for nine international matches -- and from all football activity for four months -- after being found guilty of biting Italy's Giorgio Chiellini.
Uruguay and Liverpool striker Suarez, 27, bit the defender during the latter stages of the 1-0 victory that secured Uruguay's place in the knockout stages.
FIFA launched an immediate investigation, and an independent disciplinary panel confirmed the punishment on Thursday. Uruguay federation president, Wilmer Valdez said on Thursday that the federation will lodge an appeal.
The sanctions mean that, in addition to his World Cup immediately being over, Suarez will miss nine Premier League games as well as Champions League and Capital One Cup matches before the end of October -- assuming he stays at Liverpool.
A FIFA statement said: "The player Luis Suarez is to be suspended for nine official matches. The first match of this suspension is to be served in the upcoming [round of 16] FIFA World Cup fixture between Colombia and Uruguay.
"The remaining match suspensions shall be served in Uruguay's next FIFA World Cup matches, as long as the team qualifies, and/or in the representative team's subsequent official matches.
"The player is banned from taking part in any kind of football-related activity -- administrative, sports or any other -- for a period of four months. A stadium ban is pronounced against Luis Suarez, who is prohibited from entering the confines of any stadium during the period of the ban."
Suarez was also ordered to pay a fine of 100,000 Swiss francs (65,700 pounds).
Claudio Sulser, the chairman of the FIFA Disciplinary Committee, said: "Such behaviour cannot be tolerated on any football pitch and in particular not at a FIFA World Cup, when the eyes of millions of people are on the stars on the field.
"The Disciplinary Committee took into account all the factors of the case and the degree of Mr. Suarez's guilt. The decision comes into force as soon it is communicated."
Liverpool chief executive officer Ian Ayre said in a short statement: "Liverpool Football Club will wait until we have seen and had time to review the FIFA Disciplinary Committee report before making any further comment."
The incident happened when Suarez and Chiellini clashed off the ball in the penalty area.
Suarez fell to the ground holding his mouth, apparently suggesting that he had been elbowed, while the Juventus centre-back pulled down his shirt to reveal a bite mark on his left shoulder as he ran to referee Marco Rodriguez to complain.
As he did so, Uruguay forward Gaston Ramirez tried to pull his shirt back into place, while the referee took no action against Suarez.
The Liverpool striker defended himself on Uruguayan television after the incident, saying: "These situations happen on the pitch. We were both just inside the area, he struck me in the chest with his shoulder and he hit me in the eye as well."
It is the third time in his career that Suarez has been involved in such a controversy.

Brazil 2014: Ronaldo's goal makes no difference as Germany and usa move on

Cristiano Ronaldo's goal that sealed a 2-1 win over Ghana for Portugal was not enough for his country to progress to the round of 16 at the 2014 World Cup.
An own goal from John Boye and a strike from Ronaldo either side of Asamoah Gyan's header secured the Portuguese three points, but an inferior goal difference compared to USA meant they finished third in Group G.

Thomas Muller scored his fourth goal of the World Cup as Germany defeated the United States 1-0 to win Group G ahead of the Americans, who also advanced to the knockout stage of the World Cup despite losing.
With two wins and a draw, Germany topped the group with seven points, while the U.S. progressed with four. Portugal beat Ghana 2-1 but both were eliminated.
"This is a huge huge step and now we can't wait until round of 16," U.S. coach Jurgen Klinsmann said after the match. "Everyone said we had no chance, we took the chance and move on. And now we really want to prove a point."

In the post, the "Halo" singer recalled that her first producer told her to watch Jackson's performance of "Who's Loving You" for hours. "What he wanted me to learn was his soul," Bey wrote. "You could hear his soul. And he was this little kid who hadn't experienced love but he was a vessel. For whatever reason he could evoke more emotion than an adult. It was so raw and so pure. It was these little things that he did that were just swag. It's something that's God given."

"Michael taught me that sometimes you have to forget technique, forget what you have on. If you feel silly, you have to go from the gut just let it go," she added. "Michael Jackson changed me, and helped me to become the artist I am, thank you Michael."

Jackson's sister La Toya Jackson has also released a statement to honor his memory. Calling her brother "the most incredible father, brother, son and the most talented performed this world has ever known," she said, "If Michael were here today he would tell us to all celebrate his life and not to mourn his death."

Queen Elizabeth II visited 'Game of Thrones' Set in Belfast

Queen Elizabeth II took a tour on the fantasy realm of "Game of Thrones" on Tuesday, June 24. The 88-year-old monarch and Prince Philip visited the set of the HBO drama series at the Titanic Studios in Belfast, where the interior shots of the show are filmed, as part of her Northern Ireland tour.

The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh were greeted by showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss as they arrived and were shown the props, including the costumes and weaponry, first. They later moved to the throne room, where they met some cast members, including Lena Headey, Maisie Williams, Kit Harington, Sophie Turner and Rose Leslie.

According to reports, the queen refused to try out the Iron Throne, which according to the show is made up of a thousand swords surrendered in war. She, however, was photographed admiring the seat. The picture was posted on official monarchy Instagram account with a caption which read, "The #IronThrone as you've never seen it before..."

The royal couple spent around a half hour as they were scheduled to have a lunch at City Hall. Before leaving, the queen got a miniature replica of the Iron Throne to remind her of her visit.

Fantastic Display: As Argentina see Nigeria to a 3-2 win

Lionel Messi scored twice to help Argentina beat Nigeria 3-2 as both sides progressed from Group F.
Messi's two goals were twice cancelled out by Nigeria's Ahmed Musa but Marcos Rojo's second-half finish made sure Argentina took all three points and finished top of the table.
Despite their defeat, Nigeria also progressed to the last 16 as Iran were beaten 3-1 by Bosnia-Herzegovina -- meaning the Super Eagles go through as runners-up.
Messi's double means he is now the 2014 World Cup's joint top scorer with Neymar on four goals and, while the No. 10 was substituted and spared the final half-hour of the game, his emphatic form means Argentina will go into the competition's latter stages in high spirits.
It took less than three minutes for the South Americans to break the deadlock.
Javier Mascherano fired an incisive pass to Angel Di Maria and, while the winger's shot was saved by Vincent Enyeama, the ball cannoned back off the near post and into the path of Messi, who shot high into the net.
One minute and 20 seconds later, however, Nigeria were level. Michel Babatunde broke from midfield and played the ball left to Musa who skipped inside Pablo Zabaleta before curling the ball brilliantly past Romero and into the far corner.
Argentina almost restored their advantage soon after when Messi slid in Gonzalo Higuain but the Napoli striker could only find the side-netting from an acute angle after dribbling round the goalkeeper.
After a pulsating opening 10 minutes, the game tightened up with Nigeria successfully able to stifle Argentina's attacking talents.
Di Maria skewed a shot wide from the edge of the area just before the half-hour mark and Peter Odemwingie fired a long-range shot over the bar as both sides struggled to create clear-cut chances.
Sergio Aguero's injury-plagued season continued as the Manchester City forward hobbled off in the 37th minute and was replaced by Ezequiel Lavezzi.
Two minutes before the break, Messi fired a bending free kick from 40 yards towards the top corner but Vincent Enyeama was able to dive across and push the ball past the post.
Moments later the Argentina number 10 was given a second opportunity, slightly closer in, and this time he made no mistake, chipping the ball over the wall and beyond Enyeama to make it 2-1 on the stroke of half-time.
The second period began just as frantically as the first, with two more goals in the opening five minutes.
Nigeria drew level for the second time in the match and again it was Musa with the strike, as he ghosted through the Argentina defence before slotting past Sergio Romero to make it 2-2.
The Super Eagles' parity was short-lived, however, as the lively Di Maria unleashed a fizzing shot from the edge of the area that Enyeama did well to palm behind.
From the resulting corner Argentina found the net as Nigeria's defence failed to clear and Rojo was left free to turn the ball home from close range.
Messi was denied the chance to complete his hat trick with Alejandro Sabella opting to rest his talisman and bring on Ricardo Alvarez shortly after the hour.
Argentina almost extended their lead in the 78th minute when Di Maria's dinked free-kick allowed Lavezzi to volley from close range but his shot was blocked by the feet of Enyeama.
Nigeria then went close at the other end as Musa again cut inside Zabaleta on to his right foot but this time the Argentina full-back read the move and was able to block the shot.
Ezequiel Garay should have put the result beyond doubt with a header at the back post in the final 10 minutes but it proved inconsequential as both teams booked their spots in the knockout stages.

Solange Knowles celebrated her 28th birthday on Tuesday with her boyfriend of five years. 

And if a new report from MediaTakeOut is to be believed, it was a double celebration as the publication claims 51-year-old video producer Alan Ferguson proposed to her on Monday. 

While Solange has not yet commented on the report, she did take to Instagram to share a sweet snap of them cuddling in the water on a tropical beach while she grinned delightedly at the camera.

Despite their split, Solange has nothing but praise for her ex.

Fifa set to Investigate Suarez vampire bite

FIFA has announced it will investigate the Luis Suarez alleged biting incident with Liverpool's Uruguayan striker likely to face a lengthy ban if found guilty.
Suarez appeared to bite Italy's Giorgio Chiellini towards the end of Uruguay's 1-0 win, leaving teeth-marks on his shoulder
A FIFA spokesperson told Press Association Sport: "We are awaiting the official match reports and will gather all the necessary elements in order to evaluate the matter."
FIFA asked the team to present evidence, which can include video recordings, by 5 p.m. local time Wednesday. A decision must be published before Saturday, when Uruguay plays Colombia in a round-of-16 match at Maracana stadium.
FIFA's disciplinary code sets a maximum ban of 24 matches or two years, but the longest ban in World Cup history was eight games for Italy's Mauro Tassotti for breaking Spain's Luis Enrique's nose in 1994 with an elbow.
FIFA's disciplinary code allows action to be taken retrospectively via video evidence even if the incident has been seen by the referee.
Article 77 of FIFA's disciplinary code states the disciplinary committee is responsible for "sanctioning serious infringements which have escaped the match officials' attention" and "rectifying obvious errors in the referee's disciplinary decisions".
Italy boss Cesare Prandelli, who went on to resign immediately after the game, confirmed he had seen the bite marks.
He said: "I didn't see Suarez biting him but I saw the bite-marks on his shoulder but the referee's assistants were so busy they didn't see anything. It's a shame, it's a real shame that it turned out like this."
Chiellini said it was "ridiculous" that Suarez had not been sent off while Italy's Claudio Marchisio was for a hard foul on Arevalo Rios.
"The disparity in judgement has been evident," said Chiellini, who showed the referee the bite marks while still on the field. "Marchisio's sending off was ridiculous but more so the fact that Suarez wasn't sent off. There's an inclination to protect star players but the referee should have shown him a red card."
Jim Boyce, Britain's FIFA vice-president and head of FIFA's referees committee, expressed major concerns about Suarez's actions.
"I have watched the incident several times on television," said Boyce. "There is no doubt Luis Suarez is a fantastic footballer but, once again, his actions have left him open to severe criticism. FIFA must investigate the incident seriously and take whatever disciplinary action deemed necessary."

Justin Bieber involved in Car Accident

Justin Bieber got into a car accident in front of Masto's Steak House, a restaurant where he recently had dinner with Selena Gomez, in Beverly Hills on June 24 around 2 P.M. According to TMZ, a paparazzo was chasing Justin's black Cadillac Escalade when a BMW accidentally crashed into his car.

An eyewitness said that the BMW miscalculated the speed of the Escalade and smashed into its right passenger door. A source revealed that there was no victim in this accident, saying, "Justin was only a passenger, not the driver, and he was not hurt. He is doing just fine." After the fender bender, Justin was seen getting out from the SUV and hopped another car which then sped away.

This is not the first time Justin got involved in a car accident related to paparazzi chase. Last year, a paparazzo was killed while crossing the road to take a picture of Justin in his Ferrari. In 2012, two paparazzi's cars smashed into each other after chasing Justin.

A US Plane Flying from Nigeria to Gabon Went Missing

A four-seater plane flying from Nigeria to Gabon via Cameroon has disappeared, according to Cameroon aviation sources on Tuesday.

The plane, owned by the US company Global Aviation, took off from Kano in northern Nigeria at 1800 hours on Monday en route Libreville in Gabon, where it was scheduled to arrive at 2300 hours, after a stopover in Douala, Cameroon.

However, the station said that the plane, with only the American pilot on board, did not make it to Douala.

It said the last contact the plane had with the control tower took place in Mongo, which is two hours flight from the Cameroonian economic capital.

Report says that search and rescue operations led by Cameroon’s civil aviation authorities have not yielded any positive results.

Vampire on the field: As Suarez appears to Bite an Italian Opponent 'Chiellini'

Uruguay's Luis Suarez appeared to bite an opponent during the final minutes of his team's critical Group D match with Italy on Tuesday at the Estádio das Dunas in Natal, Brazil.
The incident happened during a scuffle with Italy defender Giorgio Chiellini with the score deadlocked at 0-0 in the 80th minute. The players collided while competing for a corner kick and Suarez clearly threw his head in Chiellini's direction.

It appears he lose or damage a tooth.

The action of the Uruguay forward is not at all a strange one. He had done such before.

 

April 21, 2013: He was suspended 10 games by England's FA for biting Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic in a league game in the 2012-13 season. Liverpool drew 2-2 on a game-tying goal by Suarez. "I was angry after giving away a penalty -- I completely lost it," Suarez said later in a newspaper interview. Suarez had been shown a yellow card for a different incident in the match.

 

Nov. 20, 2010: While playing for Ajax, he received a seven-match ban for biting PSV Eindhoven's Otman Bakkal in a game. The game finished 0-0. Suarez was not booked in the match.

Suarez, one of the world's most devastating strikers, scored both of Uruguay's goals in a 2-1 win over England on Thursday. Afterward, he credited his mistreatment by the English media as his inspiration for revenge. It was unclear to what he was referring, but many believed it was Thursday's front page of The Sun, which made light of his toothy history

Sam Smith amazes the world again, this time with his cover of Whitney Houston's classic "How Will I Know". The British singer performed a stripped down version of the 1985 upbeat song during his visit to SiriusXM Hits1 in New York City on Friday, June 20.

Smith emotionally sang the track while being joined by a keyboardist and a guitarist. Despite having come out as a gay, he opted to change the line "how do I know if he really loves me" into "how do I know if you really love me."

"A Whitney Houston song that makes me happy - it's a feel-good song," Smith told Rolling Stone of the track. "I love the juxtaposition of a melancholy lyric with an upbeat sound. People forget that's how she rose to fame. The more mature Whitney, like 'I Will Always Love You', came later."

This has been a great year for Smith. The 22-year-old star released his debut album, "In the Lonely Hour", in his home country last month and it peaked at No. 1 on U.K.'s Albums Chart. On June 17, the record arrived in the U.S. and has been projected to open at No. 2 on Billboard 200 this week.

Louis Van Gaal not satisfied with World Cup officiating

Coach Louis van Gaal is not happy about the standard of refereeing at this summer's tournament in Brazil.
Van Gaal, speaking on Monday after the his team finished atop Group B with an impressive 2-0 victory over previously undefeated Chile at Arena Corinthians, contended that his side were lucky not to have been eliminated from the competition before the group stage finale after several calls -- erroneous in his view -- went against the Oranje in earlier wins versus Spain and Australia.
"The first two matches, we were faced with two unfair penalties. That could have led to a disqualification," Van Gaal said.
"I am only looking at the facts. You see, I am sitting on a bench, sometimes sort of underground, and I can see it is not a penalty."
Van Gaal also took exception to the yellow card star striker Robin van Persie was given in last week's 3-2 win over the Australians. Because it was Van Persie's second caution of the group stage, the Manchester United striker -- who scored three goals in his first two games -- was suspended for Monday's match.
"That is not a yellow card," Van Gaal said. "I think the referees should also be evaluated and assessed -- the media assess and evaluate players, but you should also go for the referees.
"If they have made a mistake they should be put at a lower level. That's what I do with my players. If they don't perform, if they don't play their match very well, the next match I will choose a different player, possibly. If only FIFA would do the same thing."

Nicki Minaj Collaborate with Drake on New Album 'Pink Print'

Nicki Minaj has revealed that her new collaboration with Drake is underway. In a new interview with Kojo and Jade of Capital Xtra on Monday morning, June 23, the raptress said that the track featuring the Canadian star would "definitely" appear in her upcoming album "The Pink Print".

"I'm a massive fan of [Drake], that's my baby. And I hope and pray we'll have [a collaboration] on there. I think that we'll definitely have one on there," Minaj said and added that she's scheduled to hit the studio with her Young Money labelmate later this week.

"We're supposed to meet up this week to get some stuff crack-a-ling in the studio. I think there'll be another feature on the album that will blow people away. I'm super excited about that too, but it's obviously a secret!" she explained.

Minaj and Drake are no strangers to work with each other. The duo have worked together many times in the past, appearing in tracks such as "Moment 4 Life", "Make Me Proud" and "Up All Night".

Minaj's "The Pink Print" currently has no official release date. She has dropped "Pills N Potions" as the lead single off the record. Its music video arrived earlier this month with rapper The Game starring in it.

"He was really dope to work with. He came really last minute we reached out to him and he came right away. I think he was in the studio at the time," Minaj said of Game. "I wanted a guy for the video, and the producers booked two rappers that I didn't think really fit... It was my idea to reach out to The Game, I knew he lived in L.A. I had never hung out with him before ever in life."

"But he had made a comment about me on Instagram or something like that, and me and my girlfriend were just there laughing. And I thought, you know what, let's see if he can come by. And he was able to come!" she added.

Neymar: We're gaining momentum

Brazil's star striker Neymar and coach Luiz Felipe Scolari were both satisfied with the team's 4-1 win over Cameroon and say the team is progressing as planned at the World Cup.
Neymar scored twice against Cameroon -- taking his tournament-leading goal tally to four -- helping Brazil win Group A with Mexico finishing second.
"I think the main thing is that the team, as a whole, had our best match," said Neymar. "We managed to attack as we wanted and everyone deserves to be complimented because we played to deserve the score. We are on the right track and are progressing."
The team remains focused on getting better with each game, according to Scolari in his post-game news conference, and know their hardest challenges are still ahead.
"Things evolve step by step and this is what we're trying to plant," said Scolari. "We are progressing on an everyday basis and in every match. Even with some difficulties to score goals, we scored four goals, but could have scored seven or eight. We have improved compared to the match against Mexico."
In addition to Neymar's brace, Fred and Fernandinho scored for Brazil, who played in front of a raucous crowd in their nation's capital of Brasilia.
"We are feeling very comfortable in Brazil," said Scolari. "Brazil has been treating us with such tenderness and is so friendly wherever we go. There is so much motivation from our fans and we feel at home anywhere. Even when we've not been playing well, the support we receive is incredible."
Brazil will face Chile in the round of 16 on June 28 at noon ET in Belo Horizonte. The match will be a massive test for Chile as Brazil have not lost a competitive match in their home country since 1975, going 42-0-18 in their last 60 games.
But Scolari knows Chile, who Brazil beat in the 2010 round of 16, are a good team and will require the best effort from his team to secure a victory.
"We cannot give the opponent a chance. We have to have a very balanced way of playing," said Scolari. "Sometimes it's one goal that is going to decide a goal. We can't make as many mistakes and that's what we have to do differently."
For Neymar, the chance to play in the World Cup's advanced stages is a dream come true.

Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez, who have been flaunting their relationship following their recent reunion, recently had another romantic date at the Los Angeles zoo. The on-and-off couple went to the zoo on Sunday afternoon, June 22. A photo of the famous pair during the date was shared on Instagram by Dave Osokow, who is the director of client relations for SBE.

"Sunday! @TheLosAngelesZoo Thank You Lt. Beccera for looking after us! @selanagomez @justinbieber #lazoo #mydayinla #sunday," Osokow wrote. The snap shows Gomez, sporting a sleeveless white top and jeans, posing with an officer and her Canadian boyfriend who opted for a black top, jeans, a fedora and a pair of shades.

On Sunday, the "Baby" hitmaker took to Instagram to share a photo of a peacock which apparently was taken during the outing. "Hey u quit lookin at me like that," he captioned the snap. The 20-year-old pop star also retweeted a photo of him posing with a young fan. "Thank you for taking the time to take a photo with my daughter at the zoo today," read a caption for the sweet photo.

Speculations about Bieber and the "Spring Breakers" star's reunion started when they were spotted together at a party. On June 20, they had dinner and went to Westfield Century City mall theater to watch "Think Like a Man Too".
