For a while, people didn't even know what Jay-Z and Beyoncé's 2-year-old daughter Blue Ivy Carter looked like. The power couple's child often had her face covered in a veil. Now that the internet has caught their first glimpse of the baby girl, it seems like keeping her hidden was a good idea.

New images of Blue Ivy are surfacing, and the first thing many are noticing is not the Blue's cuteness, but her un-styled hair. This has led to a flood of ridiculously mean-spirited and hypercritical tweets.

But this isn't just the world's Beyoncé obsession talking. Black hair — particularly black female hair — is serious business. Chris Rock's documentary Good Hair speaks to the complexities of how black female hair is kept, styled and maintained, giving voice to the burden of living in a society that doesn't appreciate or understand black hair. However, it's easy to see how this burden is exacerbated when an infant is subject to intense scrutiny for something out of her control. What's more, Blue Ivy's hair hasn't even completely grown in yet. She's being judged on something that, like her introduction to completely unnecessary and offensive public scrutiny, is still unfolding.

We've seen it with Olympian Gabby Douglas and Oscar-nominated actress Quvenzhané Wallis. These are young black women who are in the public eye in the fields with little to no diversity. Yet everybody obsesses over their hair — and especially whether these black women in the public eye are representing the race positively. Through their hair.

My Last at Old Trafford - Vidic to 'move on' after season

Manchester United captain Nemanja Vidic has confirmed that this season will be his last at Old Trafford.

Vidic, 32, is in the final six months of his current United deal and has decided to pursue a new challenge elsewhere, ending months of speculation about his future.

The former Serbia international revealed the news through a statement on Manchester United's official website and insisted that he will not represent another Premier League team, paving the way for a move overseas.

'Transformers: Age of Extinction' Super Bowl Spot Shows Off Dinobots

"Transformers: Age of Extinction" releases an explosive teaser during Super Bowl. The video gives a first look at the Dinobots including flying robots and Grimlock. The familiar Optimus Prime is also shown in the sneak peek. The Autobot leader is taking a hit in one scene and riding on the back of the robotic T-Rek which goes berserk.

In addition to offering a lot of footage which shows the robots, the video features glimpses at the new human cast members among the battle scenes. Nicola Peltz portrays a damsel in distress in this Michael Bay-directed actioner, while Mark Wahlberg plays her on-screen father and Jack Reynor is her boyfriend.

The film is due on June 27 in 3D. In the upcoming fourth installment, Earth is scarred by the events of the past three movies but is moving on after all the giant robots disappeared. Kelsey Grammer is tapped to take on the villainous role.

Liverpool striker Luis Suarez believes a victory against Premier League leaders Arsenal at Anfield on Saturday will put his side in pole position to claim a Champions League return.

Suarez has led the Liverpool challenge for a top four finish in stunningly impressive fashion this season and he accepts his side's next game could be hugely significant in their ambitions for the rest of the season.

'Thor: The Dark World' Dubbed 'Perfectly Adequate Marvel Movie' in Honest Trailer

"Thor: The Dark World" gets mocked in an Honest trailer by Screen Junkies. The 3-and-a-half-minute video compiles actual scenes from the Marvel movie, but with a narration which hilariously describes the film.

"Thor is back in another perfectly adequate Marvel movie," the narrator says. Calling it the film that will tide fans over until "Avengers: Age of Ultron", the narrator adds that "Thor 2" is "another post-'Avengers' movie full of references to 'The Avengers' but no actual Avengers.' "

Highlighting Thor's love story with Jane Foster, the narrator continues, "When he's not battling yet another forgettable bad guy, watch as the mighty Thor mopes around Asgard in a snuggy because he's still hung up on a girl he spent one long weekend with and hasn't called in two years."

The team behind Honest Trailers previously poked fun at the first "Thor" movie, calling it a new kind of superhero movie that's neither awesome (like "The Dark Knight") or terrible (like "Catwoman"), but is somewhere in the middle.

'Postman Pat' Lured by Fame and Fortune in the Movie's First Trailer

Beloved children's series "Postman Pat" is going big screen in CGI 3D film "Postman Pat: The Movie". First trailer of the animated movie has been released, featuring the voice talents of Rupert Grint, David Tennant, Stephen Mangan and Jim Broadbent.

Pat, a veteran postman, discovers that he has more talent than delivering mails. He enters a TV talent show competition to show the world his voice and gets the stamp of approval from Simon Cobwell. However, his belief is challenged as he embarks on a new career and his old post is replaced by a bunch of robots.

The movie gives a darker side of Pat who is leaving behind his beloved Greendale. "Being nice for an hour and a half is not that interesting, so we take Pat to the dark side. Pablo Zabaleta has admitted Chelsea deserved to beat Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on Monday and said his side failed to perform at their best.

The Argentina international rued the loss of injured players, as City were without Sergio Aguero, Samir Nasri and Fernandinho, but believes their quadruple hopes were not harmed too much by the 1-0 loss at the Etihad Stadium.

Vatican surveys find Catholics reject sex rules

VATICAN CITY — Surveys commissioned by the Vatican have shown that the vast majority of Catholics in Germany and Switzerland reject church teaching on contraception, sexual morality, gay unions and divorce.

 

The Vatican took the unusual step of commissioning the surveys ahead of a major meeting of bishops that Pope Francis has called for October to discuss the family.

This week, German and Swiss bishops reported the results. They were surprising in the near-uniformity of responses: that the church’s teachings on sexuality, morality and marriage are rejected as unrealistic and outdated by the vast majority of Catholics who nevertheless are active in parish life and consider their faith vitally important. Also surprising was the eagerness with which the bishops publicized the results.

Despite the findings, moral theologians warned that church doctrine won’t change.

Beyonce Knowles made a surprise appearance at Jay-Z's recent pre-Super Bowl party in New York. The diva surprised the crowd at DirecTV's "Super Saturday Night" at Pier 40 on Saturday, February 1 when she joined her husband onstage.

Donning a floor-length black sheer dress, Bey performed her duet with the rapper "Drunk in Love". She sang and danced while her man rapped his part. After the performance, Bey kissed the hip-hop mogul and gave him a big hug.

"Drunk in Love" is a track off Beyonce's latest self-titled album, "Beyonce". Arriving back in December, the singer's fifth studio effort entered Billboard 200 at No. 1 and stayed atop the chart for three non-consecutive weeks.
