The 2014 Olympic games are already underway in
Sochi, but one moment raised a few eyebrows during the opening ceremony:
the performance by the Russian pop girl act t.A.T.u.
The now-defunct duo, composed of Lena Katina and Yulia Volkova, gained notoriety in the early 2000s for what many called their "pseudo-lesbian" stunts. In Russian, their name stands for "this girl loves that girl"; they also put on a shock performance at the 2003 MTV Music Awards, where hundreds of women stripped down and made out with each other.
Not shockingly, t.A.T.u. refrained from putting on such a provocative
show in Sochi, but the fact that they were chosen at all surprised
many. In the midst of heavy criticism over Russia's anti-gay legislation and growing concerns over the safety of gay people in the city, Katina and Volkova limited themselves to holding hands and hugging as they performed their 2003 single "Not Gonna Get Us" in matching outfits.
There's no word on President Vladimir Putin's reaction to the performance, but he seems pretty okay with "gay propaganda" as long as it's perpetrated by attractive women who are heterosexual in real life.
If you want to get a glimpse of t.A.T.u.'s homoerotic schoolgirl shtick in its heyday, check out this music video for their 2002 hit "All The Things She Said," which has over 51 million views on YouTube:
Brendan Rodgers believes he has become a better manager for his handling of Luis Suarez's bid to leave Liverpool last summer.
Suarez
will line up for Rodgers against Arsenal in the Premier League at
Anfield on Saturday, but he could as easily have been playing for the
visitors.
The Gunners made two bids to sign the striker last summer, including an
offer of 40,000,001 pounds that they mistakenly thought would trigger a
release clause.
Suarez, who at the time was serving a
10-match domestic suspension for biting Chelsea defender Branislav
Ivanovic during a league match, also gave a number of interviews stating
that the wanted to leave Anfield, three years before his contract was
scheduled to expire.
Liverpool refused to deal,
though, as principal owner John W Henry dismissed as "ludicrous" the
idea of selling their leading scorer to Arsenal -- potential rivals for
Champions League qualification.
Sometimes, it's not just children who go through growing pains.
Take for example Justin Bieber's parents, Jeremy Bieber, 38, and Pattie Mallette, 37.
Over the past year and a half – and especially over the past few
months and weeks – Justin has been in the news for all the wrong
reasons. While he has shining moments of star likability (like this charity trip in Guatemala), he's been on a tear of misbehavior from a DUI in Miami to causing a ruckus on a plane.
And while he is over 18 (he turns 20 on March 1), it's only
natural to wonder: where's his mom and dad? The answer: still at his
side – but possibly more as pals than parents.
"When your kids hit a certain age your parenting style changes and it is
hard letting go. A lot of people might think that I have my head in the
sand or that I am oblivious to the things my son is doing," Mallette explained.
New images of Blue Ivy are surfacing, and the first thing many are
noticing is not the Blue's cuteness, but her un-styled hair. This has
led to a flood of ridiculously mean-spirited and hypercritical tweets.
Manchester United captain Nemanja Vidic has confirmed that this season will be his last at Old Trafford.
Vidic, 32, is in the final six months of his current United deal and
has decided to pursue a new challenge elsewhere, ending months of
speculation about his future.
The former Serbia international revealed the news through a statement
on Manchester United's official website and insisted that he will not
represent another Premier League team, paving the way for a move
overseas.
Vidic said: "It's the last year of my contract and I have had eight
wonderful years here. My time at this great club will always rank as the
best years of my career.
"Transformers: Age of Extinction" releases an explosive teaser during Super Bowl. The video gives a first look
at the Dinobots including flying robots and Grimlock. The familiar
Optimus Prime is also shown in the sneak peek. The Autobot leader is
taking a hit in one scene and riding on the back of the robotic T-Rek
which goes berserk.
In addition to offering a lot of
footage which shows the robots, the video features glimpses at the new
human cast members among the battle scenes. Nicola Peltz portrays a damsel in distress in this Michael Bay-directed actioner, while Mark Wahlberg plays her on-screen father and Jack Reynor is her boyfriend.
The film is due on June 27 in 3D. In the upcoming fourth installment,
Earth is scarred by the events of the past three movies but is moving on
after all the giant robots disappeared. Kelsey Grammer is tapped to take on the villainous role.
Liverpool striker Luis Suarez believes a victory against Premier League
leaders Arsenal at Anfield on Saturday will put his side in pole
position to claim a Champions League return.
Suarez has led the
Liverpool challenge for a top four finish in stunningly impressive
fashion this season and he accepts his side's next game could be hugely
significant in their ambitions for the rest of the season.
Liverpool
lost 2-0 to Arsenal in the reverse fixture at Emirates Stadium back in
November, but Suarez is convinced his team have what it takes to improve
on that result in a month when they will also play the Gunners in an FA
Cup fifth round tie.
"Thor: The Dark World" gets mocked in an Honest trailer by Screen Junkies. The 3-and-a-half-minute video compiles actual scenes from the Marvel movie, but with a narration which hilariously describes the film.
"Thor is back in another perfectly adequate Marvel movie," the narrator
says. Calling it the film that will tide fans over until "Avengers: Age of Ultron", the narrator adds that "Thor 2" is "another post-'Avengers' movie full of references to 'The Avengers' but no actual Avengers.'
"
Highlighting Thor's love story with Jane Foster, the narrator continues,
"When he's not battling yet another forgettable bad guy, watch as the
mighty Thor mopes around Asgard in a snuggy because he's still hung up on a girl he spent one long weekend with and hasn't called in two years."
The team behind Honest Trailers previously poked fun at the first "Thor" movie, calling it a new kind of superhero movie that's neither awesome (like "The Dark Knight") or terrible (like "Catwoman"), but is somewhere in the middle.
"Thor: The Dark World" starring Chris Hemsworth and Natalie Portman arrives on Blu-ray on February 25.
The AC Milan striker 'Mario Balotelli' took to Twitter on Monday night to
show off his new haircut.
The 23 year old forward is now sporting a
mohawk with asymmetrical patterns. "Just finished my hair cut! Now going
home to sleep!' and 'Amos! Best barber! ;-)" He tweeted.
Beloved children's series "Postman Pat" is going big screen in CGI 3D film "Postman Pat: The Movie". First trailer of the animated movie has been released, featuring the voice talents of Rupert Grint, David Tennant, Stephen Mangan and Jim Broadbent.
Pat, a veteran postman, discovers that he has more talent than
delivering mails. He enters a TV talent show competition to show the
world his voice and gets the stamp
of approval from Simon Cobwell. However, his belief is challenged as he
embarks on a new career and his old post is replaced by a bunch of
robots.
The movie gives a darker side of Pat who is leaving behind his beloved
Greendale. "Being nice for an hour and a half is not that interesting,
so we take Pat to the dark side.
He gets seduced by the lure of fame and fortune. He even falls out with
Jess. That's all I'm saying, don't tell the kids!" Mangan who voices the
postman said. Ronan Keating of Boyzone
plays Pat's singing parts. Directed by Mike Disa and co-written by Kim
Fuller and Annika Bluhm, the movie hits U.K. cinemas May 23.
Unusual white lion triplets have been born in a zoo in central Poland.
Andrzej Pabich, head of the zoo in Borysew, said white lions often have
defects that prevent giving birth, or mothers may reject the cubs.
Triplets are rare.
Pablo Zabaleta has admitted Chelsea deserved to beat Manchester City at
the Etihad Stadium on Monday and said his side failed to perform at
their best.
The Argentina international rued the loss of injured players, as City
were without Sergio Aguero, Samir Nasri and Fernandinho, but believes
their quadruple hopes were not harmed too much by the 1-0 loss at the Etihad Stadium.
City missed a chance to overhaul Arsenal at the top of the Premier League as Chelsea ended their 100 percent home record.
Zabaleta told City’s official website:
"We are disappointed for the game we played. We didn't play our best.
VATICAN CITY — Surveys commissioned by the Vatican have shown that
the vast majority of Catholics in Germany and Switzerland reject church
teaching on contraception, sexual morality, gay unions and divorce.
The Vatican took the unusual step of commissioning the surveys
ahead of a major meeting of bishops that Pope Francis has called for
October to discuss the family.
This week, German and Swiss bishops
reported the results. They were surprising in the near-uniformity of
responses: that the church’s teachings on sexuality, morality and
marriage are rejected as unrealistic and outdated by the vast majority
of Catholics who nevertheless are active in parish life and consider
their faith vitally important. Also surprising was the eagerness with
which the bishops publicized the results.
Despite the findings, moral theologians warned that church doctrine won’t change.
Paul Walker's estate is reportedly worth $25 million and he left it all for his only child. The "Fast and Furious" star died at the age of 40 last November in a car crash, handing out the legacy to his 15-year-old daughter Meadow.
A copy of the will was obtained by TMZ. Paul Walker III, the late
actor's father acted as the executor, filing the will with the court,
and petitioned to have his wife Cheryl as the minor's legal guardian.

Thibaut Courtois’ father expects Chelsea to decide the fate of current
No. 1 Petr Cech before the young Belgian commits his future to the club.
Courtois Jr is currently on loan at Atletico Madrid, where he has spent
three seasons playing in La Liga, and is yet to make an appearance for
Chelsea despite having joined in 2011.
The relationship between Jose Mourinho and Courtois Sr has been
stretched in recent months, with the Chelsea boss reportedly wanting the
goalkeeper to sign a new, long-term deal at Stamford Bridge.
Taylor Swift graces the cover of Glamour
magazine for its March edition wearing a red dress. In addition to
posing for the cover, the 24-year-old singer shares her opinion about
some issues in an interview for the edition which will hit the newsstands on February 11.
When talking about the topic of being a role model to younger fans,
Swift says that she does not really like showing off her skin. "I find
it relatively easy to keep my clothes on because I don't really feel
like taking them off. It's not an urge I have," she says.
The caption reads: "Be mindful about stereotypes. Only one of
them is a convicted felon."
What's the big deal? And why is no one protecting that sweet little lady from that lanky cornrowed goon?
Calm down, you racist: The joke is that Stewart is a convicted felon. In 2004, a New York City jury found her guilty on four counts of "obstructing justice and lying to investigators" in relation to a "well-timed stock
Jose insisted Chelsea’s masseur delivered the teamtalk that inspired his side to a 1-0 win at Manchester City -- and claimed he didn’t understand a word of it.
The Chelsea manager was adamant Arsenal are the favourites in the title
race and his team are the outsiders, despite ending City’s 100 percent
home league record.
But while Mourinho’s tactics worked perfectly as Branislav Ivanovic
scored the only goal of the game, his said the prematch message came
from the Blues’ Scottish masseur Billy McCulloch and that he had not
talked to his players after midday.
He said: “I didn’t speak. It was Billy the masseur that spoke to the
team. He was screaming so much in
